A newbie Needs Help

Hi,

I just recently purchased a 360.

Wanted to update the firmware on there, but getting into a few problems.

I have got the case open, and have a ms28 drive for xbox.

I am trying to use iprep to create a bootable zip pen drive, but this dosnt seem to work, when try to boot from it, it keeps coming back as invalid drive??

Is it becasue i do not have a Via chipset? I have a Intel 82801HR/HH/HO Sata Raid controller, could this be the case. I havent even plugged in the xbox 360 to the pc, so i didnt think that would be the casue.

Do i need the Via chipset? So i can buy one from ebay? Any reccomdations on this?

Also how do i solve the problem with not being able to boot into dos with the iprep softwae?

i have followed the tutorial, but Im not sure if going blind or anything.

I have a similar problem... I have the 965p chipset but iprep will just NOT make a bootable drive of any usb flash drive I put in my PC.
I get an error halfway through the disk making process each time I use it, and I just select continue and the dialogue box tells me the disk was made correctly....and all of the files are apparently on the usb disk when I explore it.
however....no computer I use will boot from that USB drive....and I have tried three different USB memory sticks.

any ideas oh wizened masters of iprep?

Isnt there 2 drives that i can use? Is there a big differnece into how easy or hard the flashing the 360 is?

Will this also solve my not bootable from zip pen drive? When I boot my pc, I do have an option for usb zip drive, and that doesnt work on it either. Comes up with invalid system disk.

Please help me with this, I have also tried to format the pen drive in windows to make bootable drive, but that wont allow it.

What is the difference between the VT6421A and VT6421L chipset? The VT6421L card can flash the Samsung drive and "bad-flash" an MS28 without soldering.

Is this correct? Would i be better off getting a 6421L? Thanks ****

Managed on my old pc, to boot into dos using the cd. with the apps burnt onto there. For some reason this was not working in my new pc.

So that seems to work, and idump loads up fine. I know that cant really go any futher untill i get a via chipset sata port, so i would still like someone to confirm the differnce between the A & the L . And if will make any differnce to what i am thrying to do, and if the one posted in the previous post will be fine for the job.

I have purchased cards 6421 and 6421a.
I cant seam to be able to purchase a 6421L card with this chipset.
The reason is that i live in a coutry wich they dont ship it in my coutry.
I have a toshiba samsung ms-28.
Would i be able to use te bad flash method??with one of the cards tha i
allready have??or is not pisible???

Guys this site is a wealth of information, if you looked around a bit before posting you would have found the answers to all of your questions already. This one thread not only has links to UK and US sellers for the cards but caster420 also explains the minor difference between the 6421L and 6421A cards.

Thanks Bigd23, i did see that post before. But i did not see the part regarding the differnce between the L & A, Sorry about that.

I have now ordered my Sata card got the A in the end. And hopefully will get either Tues or weds this week.

Hopefully, won be long till have got sorted
