After a few solid days of research, trial, and asking elsewhere, I've decided that there isn't much else to do but come here for help. What I'm trying to do is back up an original Xbox game (Jet Set Radio Future/Sega GT 2002, if anybody's wondering, but I'm also planning on getting the standalone JSRF and backing it up as well, which could theoretically give me fewer issues) to play on my 360. It may be valuable to point out that I'm using iXtreme 1.1 on a very old dashboard (I don't know what the exact version is, but it has the old Blade layout), although this hasn't caused me any issues so far. My 360 is currently playing discs just fine.
I've come across an incredible range of conflicting information on merely getting original Xbox backups to work, going from "just read+burn in Xbox Backup Creator" to "rebuild in XDVDMulleter, mount and do other things, rebuild again," and I'm very unclear on just what is necessary to run an original Xbox game on iX1.1 at this point. I've ripped the game using XBC and my 360's BenQ drive (I'm unclear on whether I should have "add filler to video" checked, and I have 0800 firmware on the BenQ at the moment, but it's apparently not necessary and will just mean having to flash it again before I stick it into the 360), but XDVDMulleter has been weird for me, claiming that there is no valid video data present (all other boxes, excluding "Random Padding" and "iXtreme Compatible" are checked, although I've read that XDVDMulleter can give false negatives when it comes to padding). I can extract both the video data and the video partition, but inserting either just ticks the video data box for a split second before it becomes unchecked again. I can rebuild the ISO as a DVD9 with zeroed padding, but this doesn't solve either the random padding or the video data issue. I know this is an incredibly old program at this point, but I don't have anything else to go off of. Are XDVDMulleter's claims of incompatibility just invalid?
I'm also unaware as to whether I can actually test backups right now, as I accidentally ordered InkJet printable discs (apparently the worst thing you can do, as I found out before they arrived) in making the risky choice not to use Verbatims. This would be why I haven't done more trial and error testing, as my discs would likely skew results, and I'd like to avoid wasting any better discs once I buy them. It also means that I have not burned any discs aside from an initial incorrectly backed up ISO, but as I said, getting confirmation before I waste anything would be nice.
There is, however, one last catch, even if I don't need to bother with mulleting anything: my reason for wanting to back up the game is modding it. I have all the specifics of that worked out but one thing: making the changes to the ISO. The issue is that if I open the backed up ISO with MagicISO, I can only view the video files rather than the actual game files. XDVDMulleter has a nifty little "replace file" feature in its browse files option, but it gives me a "file must be the same length" error if I try to use it. Is there some other program I can use that can actually access the game files, and if so, do I need to somehow edit the game before padding it (assuming I need to pad it at all) so that the total image size still perfectly fits a DVD9?
Really, thanks to anyone who can help with this. I'm just tired of trying to figure this all out after two or three months of nonstop troubleshooting for everything from flashing to right now, and I've gotten to the point where it'd have been easier and cheaper to just softmod an original Xbox, but I guess I'm just too committed. I'm convinced this is all possible, but I'm really not sure about the "how" anymore, and very few people seem to be able to offer anything.
