Hi guys,

Im out of the loop so to speak with regards to the xbox scene in recent months.

I have a phat xbox 360 running LT3.0, no problems to report :)

now, a friend of mine has a slim xbox 360, which he wants to put custom firmware on.

Now his console is connected to LIVE and thus has the newest dash.

I have just been reading the Jungleflasher tutorial (v1.4.4) and it states:
Currently Only the LiteOn Slim Drive with 9504/0272 (pre 13599 dashboard) can be written to (unless you have a unlocked 0225/0401 – Rare!) The Drives with Firmware Version 0272 (if you have dashboard 13599) 0225, 0401 and 1071 can ONLY have their Keys Read unless they have been modified or unlocked
Do I gather from this, even if my friend has a 9504 drive in his console, since he is running the newest dashboard, we can't do anything unless an unlocked PCB is purchased? (and from there using the drive key read from the original drive).

EDIT: sorry forgot to say, we have no intention on trying to unlock the PCB of his drive, we'd only mess it up! :)

That's correct - by now it's an 0272 SPI locked drive.

Check the SPI type when you get the Dummy.bin though. If it's an MXIC, unlocking is VERY easy.
yeah i the '03' code represents MXIC and '05' is Winbond yes? Easy?...:)...I will read the stuff on that later on so and see how 'easy' it is, remember I am a monkey, is it monkey-proof? :p

Of course, a replacement unlocked PCB would work...? I read the instructions on that, seems straight forward, make sure the switch is set to unlock, obtain dummy.bin, flash LT3, then lock again...I hope I am not breaking any rules, but do xecuter provide these replacement PCBs?

In other words, where can my friend get one and how much do they cost?

EDIT: its ok i know where the get them now, is it difficult to replace the PCB? soldering of the coloured wires must be done yes?

EDIT 2: if we were to go about unlocking his PCB using the Sputnik MX Probe (assuming its MXIC), what is this probe connected to? The only connection unit i have is a ck3 pro, can it be used with that?

EDIT 3: right found info on the sputnik here --> http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68271,

is there any method which doesn't involve soldering?!! i dont have a soldering iron and have little experience soldering.

There's a block which you can use to avoid having to solder it in place.

You have to get the dummy.bin from the current drive of course - this is the most important step.

The block is located to the bottom right of this image.

Simply insert you drive's wires into the corresponding (colour-coded) sockets and screw them down securely.

The replacement is top notch if you dont feel comfortable soldering. I highly recommended it before the price drop, and now I cant recommend it enough if you dont feel comfortable soldering or doing the kamikaze

Honestly the Kamikaze is far from difficult. I've yet to fry a single board yet. Although since you seem so averse to soldering go with frayed's recommendations.
