Is it worth buying?

Have any 360 updates ever changed the DVD firmware in the past? If not, is it possible? Because if it isn't possible then what is the purpose of this thing?

Thanks in advance. Oh and I haven't modded my 360, yet.

edit: i used the search function to read what previous topics about it contained. But I'm still curious as to whether MS updates have ever disabled flashed firmware, or if its even possible. If its possible and it hasn't happened yet, what's keeping them?

Yes, there have been updates in firmware. This is how we are up to v5.2 for samsungs and v2.3 for hitachi's. However, the firmwares now are very stable and are lacking very few features. You do not need to update everytime a new Xtreme firmware comes out. This product, in my opinion, is not worth it unless you have a samsung drive and plan to use it to backup your games.

MS has not updated to disable the firmware or detect it in any way. This may not always stay this way. However, they have made attempts to prevent drives from being flashed (ms28, hitachi v78, hitachi v79, BenQ), with the later two of those drives not being flashable by software or at all.

Get yourself a SAMSUNG SH-D162C KREON V0.81 DVD-ROM DRIVE if your wanting to make backups. Shove a xbox1 or 360 games in your pc drive and walla, a backup made with Schtrom360XtractV3.2.exe. Its way to easy, it should be illegal!!!
