I don't know what all slayers installs... maybe there is some app included that does vids...
But i would say you are better off installing XBMC if you plan to play any media. Don't just install it as an app either, use it as your main dash. It has a very simple and full featured interface. To backup games though, you'll want to send a copy of dvd2xbox to your xbox.
XBMC is an excellent dash. I just can't wait till they get DVD menus going.

well when i mod, i wanna install that Slayer's Autoinstaller 2.6. Is this a good idea? How can I choose what dashboard to use if I install this? I'm confuuuuuuuused..
i want to easily copy games to the HDD and play them, and also play DIVX/AVI/MPG movies that I've downloaded. Also I was told that Slayer's 2.6 may not include the newest versions of these programs?
What's my best solution

so, don't install slayer's? because slayer's includes that as well. if i install slayer's can i not just choose XBMC as my dashboard?
Slayers really installs the whole kitchen sink. As a newb (I'm in the same boat), Slayers is a great way of putting the apps on the HDD in the correct place.Slawek said:

The big advantage is that with Slayers you get everything at once, then you can pick and choose what to keep and what to throw away. Personally, I am using the Evox dashboard, but working on setting XBMC up to the way I really want it - once it is set up, I'll move it to be my primary dash.
everyone has a different opinion on this ... some love slayer, some hate it (IF YUO W4N7 2B 1337 H4X0R D00D YUO MU$7 IN$&411 3V3RY7HIN9 YUO$3LF) - personally I thought it was a great way to get the system up and running quickly ... get back to playing games, and THEN customise over time.
I say it's far easier to just pick something good that you want and install it without having to go back later and clean out all the crap.

Great thanks for the info! I think I'll actually put Slayer's on and start customizing later on. It seems to be the best quick solution to do everything
hey guys i need the actual files for slayer's autoinstaller. They took the downloads off their site and u need to be invited to get them and stuff.. can someone just post the files for me ? MSN me
well I modified this weekend, went great. Got X3 up and running no problems, installed slayer's no problem, and upgraded the HDD. However! (there's always a however..) my cat dropped my HDD off the table before i installed it in the xbox, and it makes clicking noises. So I just left it in, and last night it died (error 9). It wont stop clicking. So Im gonna go replace it today for another. WD 120 gig. Rented 10 games last night too, so I gotta do it quick! lol
oh also, about temperatures...
For some reason I get some messed up temperatures.. like 200 fahrenheit for the mobo and cpu??? There's no way that's right.. coz cold air is coming out the back.. ?? why the messed up temps
