Hi all,

Will keep this as brief as possible -> My JTAG Xenon hasn't been updated since November/December last year, so the dash is very outdated - certain games won't boot without modding the files, and it won't work with a Kinect (at least as far as I tried) so it's past time to update.

My NAND-X points are busted beyond repair, but I managed to get Xell on there prior to the damage being caused. As I can't use the NAND-X again, I'm somewhat paranoid about taking a wrong step & ruining the console.

I've grabbed the latest JTAG tool, and loaded my original NAND into the KV Info tab & entered my CPU Key - data is returned on the serial, DVD Key, CB type etc so I know the data is correct.

Under the Freebot option I've loaded my CPU Key, and the original NAND dump, then clicked create FB, which gives me my Freeboot image.

Loading this into the KV Info tab gives the matching info to the original NAND, except the CB number changes from 1888 to 1921 - will this cause an issue?

Assuming not, all I should need to do it put Flash360 on a USB stick along with Freeboot.bin (renamed to updflash.bin) then run via Xexmenu or similar?

I assume I should leave Freeboot Eject under Drivers/Option on Xell(HDMI), and it'll create a correct version of Xell, just with HDMI support were my console HDMI capable?

If it goes wrong, what are my recovery options? Should I still be able to boot to Xell & flash from there?

Thanks!

your on the right track mate. use this guide if your not already and you will be fine. http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58111 thank johnny for it he put a lot of work into it checking everything is spot on. only issue i can see you having is if you get the smc settings wrong when making your freeboot image with jtag tool you will end up with e79 after the flash and nandx would be needed to sort it out. so make sure you know how your jtag is wired up 100% if your points are gone.

Thanks mate, have already checked over the guide, I'm just being over cautious to make sure I don't do any damage.

It's a Xenon, so am I right in saying there should be no alt SMC files needed to make the image work? The CB change between the original NAND and Freeboot image won't matter either?

Good info, thanks. I thought all Xenons were original SMC only also. Though, some of the wiring does go to the non standard points - I did have a photo, but don't any more, would have to take a new one.

As for Xell[HDMI], yeah, I guess that makes sense. Will do some digging to see if I can find more concrete info. I'm in no major rush to update just now.

It's just Xell. Use Xellous. It's better and can update through Xell.

You can boot Xellous with eject with your file on usb updflash.bin and it will install it.

So, done a bit more research & can't see anything to suggest I would have an alt SMC. I did however compare my original NAND dump & a freshly dumped NAND from the jtag (Using Flash 360) and the SMC versions are different.

The original is 1.50, the jtagged is 1.51 - guess as the jtag is running fine it shouldn't make a difference if my new image is 1.51 too? Can't see any differences betweeen them in SMC config editor.

So, have created a new image with Xellous, normal SMC & and dash 13146 (I know it's not the latest, but that's OK for now), so that should be me?

I take it that if this does go wrong, I'll have no way of updating a new NAND to the console - the NAND-X points are gone, and Xellous won't be able to save it?

Thanks again.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

That's it mate - I was happy to take my time & make sure that I'd found out as much info as I could before trying it out. Such a relief to see the ROL spring to life after the power cycle!

Cheers.
