Hi, I'm some what of a n00b with the whole Xbox and everything that comes with it. I got mine for free but it is not in a working condition. After trouble shooting it for a while i came to a conclusion that the HD has crashed.

So here is my question:

Does Xecutor products provide a bios that will allow me to install a brand new HD on my box? (I figured it will cost the same price to get the Xecutor chips and everything, instead of sending it to MS). I've looked around for a bit and found the Evolution bios, but it is just too much of a pain to find it (even though everyone is referencing to it).

So what would you suggest? Get your chip set and bios, try to find EvolutionX, or send the whole console to Microsoft (Last one is not much of an option by the way)

Yes the Xecuter chips will let you install a new hd into your xbox plus let you do a whole lot more. I'd go with Xecuter cuz of their great support and plus it's has more features than any other chip on the market today. If you're having trouble finding the bios files you need, read this article: http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php.

Thanks a lot guys,

Can you now point me in the right direction of the model of chips and stuff? (I do have a limited budget)

And when i purchase somethin, do i get all the bios non-sence on a cd with the chips? (I'll choose cd copy over trying to FTP all over the place any day)

P.S. I did use mIRC and found the #xbins and did what they said. The evolutionx bois is there but it is a dummy file, in case you where wondering.

P.S. I got my xbox for free, and it worked, but at some point it stopped, I have no info at which point it stopped working or why. All i know is it give me 07 error (7 - kernel - HDD timeout ) when i try to boot it with any game (Including Halo 2  )

Am i on a right track to just replace the HD?

I did that, then i connected a diffrent HD, what I got was an 05 error with one jumper setting and 16 with another. So I assumed that the IDE cable is OK. I'll try a diffrent cable though, just for the kicks.
