After x3 bios flash Xbox turns on then off

I have a v1.0 xbox. With an X3ce chip installed using an xapt3r solderless adapter. I flashed the x3 3294 bios to both 1mb banks (on, on, off, off) and (off, on, off, off). Yes the flash protect is OFF. The flash was successful both times as the green progress meter went all the way and the xbox turned off. However my problem occurs when i turn the xbox back on after the flash. It turns on for a second, the X logo turns blue, then it turns right back off. Ive seen in other posts that they said to resolder pins 13 and 14 of the LPC, but since im using a solderless adapter, how would i resolve this?

side note... I have to hold down the chip and/or xapt3r for it to stay lit, anyone know of a good way to apply pressure to the bottom left of the chip/xapt3r? I had to use a dremel to shave off part of the bottom of the xapt3r as it was obstructed by one of the onboard chips. Ive thought of putting some styrofoam on top of the chip so that when I put back the dvd drive it will apply pressure as needed. If anyone has used this method please let me know about how thick of a styrofoam to use, or if you know of any other method to resolve this issue, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

....and thats why I hate solderless. If the Xapter is not staying lit, then its not attached properly. I would just try tightening the screw. That usually seems to make things better. And if not, although there are other remedys for Xapters, I would just reccommend to solder the chip in.

Pant, it's weird, since the screw is at the top of the Xapt3r, when i tighten it alll the way, it doesn't sit right. When i loosen it too much obviously it doenst sit right either, It's like you have to have the right mixture of loose and hand tight. I'm not confident enough in my soldering skills to solder this myself... I know I would be able to do the hdd and Lan led leads just fine, but that d0 on the back of the board is just too small. Hopefully i can find someone that lives close to me that knows how to solder.

Try adding a couple of washers under the screw, that way, it will level out, and hopefully seat right.

*** Update ***

Ok, I now have the x3 3294 bios flashed onto the 1mb (1-4 on, on, off, off) and the Evox bios flashed onto the 1mb (5-8 off, on, off, off) (both of these flashed through http). When i boot up to the x3 bios, the xbox turns on for a second then back off. When i boot to the Evox bios, I get the startup screen with EvoX logo in top left and a blue Xbox logo. I have the Evox 2.6 auto installer DVD+R in there, but it says my xbox can't recognize this disc. Without the disc, i get the Evox startup screen, then it goes to xbox live. I still have yet to see the "X3 Rox My Box" logo as the xbox turns right off after booting from the X3 bios. Please help anyone, this damn box makes me feel so stupid.

I just now successfullly flashed the x3 3294 again to the 1mb banks 1-4 using the DVD this time, so now I'm pretty sure my DVD media is compatible. However after the xbox turned off. I turn it back on, and again it turns on for a second, then right back off. I simply can't get it to boot from the x3 bios!

Pant,

Thank you. I will definitely try that. I'm not worried right now about the seating of the xapt3r as much as I am being able to boot up from my chip. I just want it to work right now, then I'll worry about the seating later, it works fine when I just hold the chip down with my finger, just limits me to one hand.

Hmm....I'm thinking that there may be a problem with the chip itself. Maybe its defective. Another thing I would reccommend doing is checking your voltages. The Evox BIOS isn't as advanced, and doesn't use all of the X3's capacty. Are all the lights on your chip on?

EDIT: Also, although it sounds weird (as you haven't soldered), are there any solder splashes or debris around the LPC? Check it out.

As far as the chip, it seems to be fine... All the lights light up as they are supposed to. I can still get to the Flashbios by pressing both power and eject. I get the Evox startup screen when booting there. I still can't get the X3 startup screen as the xbox turns off right away.

Since I have a version 1.0 mobo, There was solder in my LPC, so I did have to clean it out. I'm pretty confident that I removed all the solder, though.

What sucks is this... I've read in other posts that pins 13 and 14 could be causing this problem, and that one should bend a row of pins so that they get a better connection with the chips, but since i'm a solder idiot, i have this damn Xapter, and its kinda hard to bend those pins.

I have a weird question on why I can't get the Evox auto installer to load. My DVD media is TDK DVD+R 4x. Everywhere I read about what media to use they all say DVD-R, do you think that I need to use a DVD-R instead of +R ?

Hey you stole my avatar! :p

Well, at this point, I am all out of ideas. If bending those pins doesn't fix the problem, then I am stumped. I would have to say that those pins are your best option at this point. Unless someone who has more knowledge of the Xapter speaks up, then I think the only way to go is solder.

Well, that is definatly the reason why the auto installer doesn't work. I have a v1.0, and it is impossible to get it to read DVD+Rs....my Thompson doesn't even want to read originals anymore! You will probably have more luck with DVD-Rs. There is another suggestion to add to the list...

Pant... thank you so much for your help. I picked up a pack of DVD-Rs tonight, and will try them now. and yes, I liked your avatar so much i had to steal it, but i made mine the red logo 'cuz i can't get the bloody thing to work. Again, much thanks. Hopefully will post a success story by tomorrow.
