After X3 install, NO flash bios screen

Folks,
Need help here. I just completed X3 install (v1.6 PCB)
I can switch between Enable/Disable/Boot from 256k backup but there is no Flash BIOS screen. (MS dash boots w/o any problems)

What switch settings should I use? (off off off off off has no effect)

P.S. btw, could someone tell me what's the small wheel on X3 is for?

you should have it set to on,on,off,off,off..if you don,t see the flash bios screen try to hold the power eject in on boot up, the front display should turn purple..if it truns purple and you don't have the flash bios screen then its more then likely a solder problem so re check all your connections.

the small whell is for the contrast if you have a xlcd if you don't no need to worry about it..

What actually happens when you boot with this configuration?

As danky1 says try another switch configuration:

1.6 Xbox - boot from on on off off off
1.6b Xbox - boot from off on off off off

Here is the full story, my friend bought Xecuter 3 chip for his 1.0 Xbox. He flashed it a couple of times with one of the older verisons of X3 BIOS. Anyway, he ended up giving me this chip. I have a 1.6 version of XBOX, and after my install, there is no Flash BIOS screen. I am not at home now, so I have not been able to try different switch configurations, but do you think that one of my problems could be that he reflashed the chip? To do a 1.6 install, do I need the "origianl flash from the chip manufacturer"? What are my options now? Thanks.

If it's a 1.6 (not 1.6b), then try booting the backup BIOS.

Hold both buttons to try to reboot to the default bios if that dont help your SOFL

Well, 1Mb bank boot (on on off off off) is not coming up w/ Flash screen. Backup boot does not bring any results, too. (Backup is off,off,off,off,off, isn't it?)
I want to mention, when chip is in "Enabled" Eject button is flashing red-green...

It will do until you boot a viable bank!

The backup BIOS is booted by pressing the power and eject buttons at the same time.

he meant your out of luck with colorful words in between.

nah. just do what Martin told you. Boot up to flashbios by pressing power + eject buttons at the same time and flash with proper X3 bios for v1.6 xbox. Set your switches to [on on off off off] prior to flashing.

I am going to resolder everything again.... If only I knew 100% that chip was not [email protected]#<ed by the time I had gotten it.

well, it's finaly done! I had to desolder a rebuid pcb and trer the old header out. set the new one in and evrything worked w/o any hitches.
After so much wasted time, it took me 30 mins to take it apart, desolder, solder and put it back on. what a relief!!!
XBMC is great! The biggest disapointment for me is stinking HL dvd-rom. I have most of my movies on CDR's and I am not too eager stream it from my PC, it's more then overly busy anyway

P.S. I guess, I'd like to install bigger HD, now. Any HDD brands/models recs, folks?
