Got a box in today that has been smothered with hot glue. It's got freezing issues and stuff commonly related to wire positioning. It has hotglue on every single point. The install is very very very low grade. How do I go about removing the hot glue without lifting anything? I am at wits end fourth box in the past couple weeks that's had this hot glue crap everywhere. Don't use hot glue it's the devil!!! Help would be appreciated.

Thanks
T

That's what I was thinking heat it up like epoxy when reflowing or reballing and pop it off or mop it up some how. Sad thing is I believe the person who did this is offering services on here. I'll find out who did it tomorrow. Ipa is usually pretty good at getting hot glue off of most things.

I have a spare iron which I use for removing/adding hot-glue. For removing, I put the iron on 200c and work it either side of the soldered point until I can release as much as possible. I then crank it up to 380 and melt the solder on the point. From here, you should be able to gently pull the wire to free it (since the glue should also be soft enough).

Can you let me know who it was from?

I will as soon as I find out I am awaiting an email from the customer I have taken pictures of all the areas as well. That iron idea is perfect I have a spare 35 watt adjustable laying around that would be perfect.

I'll add it's a jasper and it has serious issues after rgh.

There were warranty stickers on the consoles that I'm assuming I voided when taking it apart. I don't want to shout out who it was prior to 100% confirmation.

Dude i was just talking on another thread about how in the last couple weeks i have been getting so many boxes needing repairs that have glue on all the point. Dont know what people are thinking.

Anyway i use a spare solder iron as suggested, works great!

I would probably treat it as epoxy.

Stick on the pre-heater at 200C for 2-5 mins.

This is why I only use electrical tape to hold my wires in place, even after I've finished the box! Might not look as neat, but at least it's easy to remove if there are any issues.

I'd be tempted to heat soak the MB on my ACHI and use the Ayoue with a thin tube nozzle to finish it off then scrape lightly with a wooden lolly stick. The remaining thin glue can be peeled off when MB cools down.
I used to use Electrical Tape but I have found that Kapton tape stays put for a lot longer :)

I don't think eletrical tape looks good, a lot of time it leaves that nasty residue on the board.

Ok, heating up the glue is NOT necessary. Hot glue can be easily removed using rubbing alcohol. Take a q-tip, dip in Isopropyl, then apply around the hot glue. The glue will begin loosening, apply more alcohol, trying to get it underneath the glue, at this point it should come off effortlessly. There's no need to heat the glue.
