OK here's the story in it's short form...

I had a Xbox 1.0 / X2.0 Lite / 80GB. Notice I said had because I tried to solder and jacked up the motherboard. Since I couldn't find where I crossed a trace, just bought a new motherboard. It's a 1.4-1.5 and I have upgraded the chip to an X3. I bought a universal solderless adapter and put that on.

And now the questions....

1) I guess my drive wasn't locked because I get 'error 6' when i boot to the m$ dashdoard. How do I fix this?

2) I finally figured how to flash the X3 chip and everything seemed to work fine. But when I turned it on after the flash, it turns on and then off immeadiately. I don't know if I did something wrong or what.

PLEASE HELP THIS NOOB OUT!!! I did look in the forums about these, but it seems that people didn't have this problem.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

a universal solderless adapter? - i think you might find you need a Xapter3r for the X3 chip.

error six is caused by your HDD being locked by another motherboard. Unless you know the unlock codes you are stuffed without paying for it to be unlocked.

The adapter looks like this
I think it works fine. I was able to run FlasBios fine off of it. Is there that much of a difference?

I don't know if I know the unlock code. I have to look and see if I saved it to my computer. I also read something about if I locked it with ConfigMagic, I can use 'TEAM ASSEMBLY' as the unlock code...is that true? If that is the case then how do I unlock the thing if nothing comes up?

that solderless adapter is not compatible with the X3 chip. You need a Xapter3r.

With regards to unlocking your drive if you know the unlock code you will need to unlock it in a PC using atapwd.

correct , with that adpater you will able to boot the flashbios and older x2 and evox bios's, but you will not be able to boot a x3 bios. because the x3 bios needs extra pins on the lpc to pull and write data to the xbox eeprom. either get a new adapter as mentioned above or solder it in.

i agree, only ever used a adapter once and it gave me nothing but trouble, if you have to use a adapter cus you cant solder then learn to solder, it will be better in the long run.

That's sounds like a plan. I'll try and learn to solder and do it that way. Since I'm kind of new to soldering (I have done it, just not that pretty) would a Pinhead solder be the best way to go over a wire install?

pin header install is the best way to do it!!!!

EDIT: You have a version 1.0 - probably better to do a wire install

If you know the code that was used to lock it the atpwd should work but if you do not have the password your only other option would be the $50.00 tool

I have seen a number of posts were it seems to work

if you can remember back, what app did you use to lock your drive?

if you used config magic to lock it then the password will be TEAMASSEMBLY

Here's an update for people helping me:

- After burning my fingers a few times, I have successfully soldered the X3. It was easy once you get used to it. It works too! Didn't fry a trace like i did last time. I went and bought a lower watt solder pencil. That really seemed to help.

- I promised that I locked my hard drive with ConfigMagic but I guess I didn't because I couldn't get the damned thing to unlock for the life of me. I tried 'teamassembly' , 'TEAMASSEMBLY' and all other combos that you can find. Anyone else have a suggestion before i go and spend $50 on that program?

Yet again I apprechiate you guys helping. You are all awesome!

At any point did you make a backup of your hard drive to your PC?

If you did, at some point you may have used EVOX'Sbackup function?
I think the evox backup info contains yours hard disk lock codes. If you have backups look at what would have been in the root of your E drive for these files. I can't remember what they were called as it's been a long time since i have used EVOX as a dashboard.

:D I'm the happiest X3 user in the world right now. The $50 unlocking worked and i'm back up and running....or should I say reading. I'm now going to get everything updated that isn't and really use the power of that X3 chip.

Thank you all again for helping me with my problems!!!! You guys rock!

And the battle rages on...

So my happiness was short lived...

Here is what is going on. I gan boot to X3CL easily, but when i boot to the exov (which I am sure is out of date) it is having major problems. I can't see any of the games that were on there. Some of the applications show up, but none of them run. The F: Drive starts out as showing up as 0 and then come up eventually.

The F: Drive thing does that in X3CL too. I was thinking because it is such an old evox that I need to switch.

So my question is...WHAT DASHBOARD SHOULD I USE???

I looked as avalaunch and it looks pretty clean, I haven't looked into a newer Evox. I liked XBMC some. What are people using??? Should this help with the messy F: Drive??

I was also thinking about taking every important thing off my drive (via FTP) and giving the hard drive the olde Re-format. Would that help?

Thank you again for helping me out in advance...

So how about my other problem with the F Drive messing up. Do you think re-formatting it will work. I'm working on a crossover cable today to get all the stuff off...
