Okay I will try to keep this short , I searched high and low for someone with the same exact issue as me and could not find it on the boards. If I overlooked it I apologize in advance. I have a 1.6 with a newly installed X3 LPC ect... After the install I plug it all back together press porwer button real quick BAM blue light on the TV screen is the BIOS Flashing options (this is where I may have n00bed) I choose flash from cd/dvd , progress bar goes to 100% the it says error byte +9 along with some other characters. So I think no biggie Ill just flash again ..Well now all I get is FRAG. Here is what I have done.

1. followed lpc rebuild guide to the t
2. triple checked soldering very clean no obvious issues
3. stripped machine and checked all plugs (same issue)
4. had the banks set to on,on,off, off, off
5. flash protection set off on the chip
6. installed a new hd (same issue)

I can assume the install is good since it did what it should have from the start and the problem started with the failed flash attempt. Now no matter what combo of buttons i push all i get is a red x and the flashing red and green. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!

So are you saying that pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds to boot to msdash FRAGs as well? And you can't boot to the 256k backup by holding power and eject?

By the way, if you do get to the backup or something, a word of advice would be to use a different disc next time when trying to flash ;) Make sure you put your dummy file on as well.

Well on the first HD it would boot to the MS dash but I got Service Code 16. So I installed another HD and now the chip will not go into any mode other than red. Tried all the different combos of button pushing.

Thanks in advance , jsun

Sounds like you've got two problems here.

1.) If the chip turns blue/red/purple and you end up flashing it with the wrong bios. It will frag, but you can always recover using the ejcect+power (purple) recovery bios. Along with this, if you installed a new hard drive and tried to boot to the MSDash, it will error out because you do not have the MSDash files on that harddrive. Not a big deal, you can run something like slayers to copy the files down.

Now, after moving stuff around, you cannot get the blue, or purple light to show on your switch. It has changed from a software issue to a hardware issue. You need to check the X3 and make sure both leds are on (probably are since the switch is lighting up). If so, then the problem is most likely something to do with your d0 point. If you did the LPC rebuild method, make sure everything is still lined up good and reheat the d0 point solder to get a good joint.

JSUN,
I looked at the photo you provide of the rebuild.
From the picture it looks like a dry joint/bad solder on LAD3 point of the rebuild.

This in your photo is pin 8 on the header directly above the Resistor Pack RP7R2.

Check this joint along with D0 too...it may be the photo quality but it does look dry
Hope this helps
Regards

First off THANKS TO EVERYONE , I totally redid everything soldering the whole nine yards and during this process I noticed both my d0 and and green (lan) wires had gotten pinched so I clipped them resoldered.....we have lift off! Booted right up and I flashed via network everything seems great! Now I just have to read up and learn so I can help people out on this board. Thanks again guys! :D
