Just read this on XBH :

PDJ Wrote: I found out that the succes rate on my xbox was higher when I disconnected the power before I switched the xbox on.
So i tried to get the power for the coolrunner from the switched 3.3V and indeed that improved it, I get almost every time a proper boot at the first try (and when it doesn't boot the first time, i switch the xbox off and on, don't have to wait minutes)

You can find the switched 3.3V also on J2B1

Here you can find the right pin (you need to connect the power to the orange pin)

Thanks to jsjar to point to the site with the pinout

<Pacote-san> I was reading up one of our Brazilian board when Galo911 posted a interested topic:

http://rgloader.spiffy360.com/thread-22.html

What you have to do to test this out is just use the alternative 3.3v point (its the one side-to-side with the current 3.3v used point)

I tried this on a SLIM that i just installed a matrix and it seems to boot EVERYTIME now

Ihave another one that i just did that i was getting average of 1 failure boot every 5 tries

Will change the 3.3v point and try again

--
I opened the slim that was more or less giving me a failure or two every 5 tries

Just changed the points, closed up and wow!

10 straight boots every single one of them perfect!

WIll be doing all my slims with the switched 3.3v point

Hmm, ok, so it's not a fix for all... Nevertheless, would love to hear from others who try it as well ? (I will be trying it tonight if I got some stubborn boxes to do).

Also, does anyone know if this might have any impact on the CR damaging-wise ? I think not, but the guys from TX will probably know for sure :)

If you need an alt. CPU_RST on a phat, give up soldering completely.

Right just finished this and it has improved slightly but after reading i think i now need to mess around with my CPU_RST coil as boot times are varying between 6 seconds and 30 seconds being the longest so far

CPU_PLL_BYPASS is the hardest point to solder to IMHO. If you messed this up it's totally understandable ;)

Totally agree - one of the smallest points of the install, and right between two components - easy to mess up with a shakey hand - touch wood, I haven't yet tho lol

Yes the green wire is hard (luckily i never failed that one, and i have some shaky hands), but to me the STBY_CLK is the hardest, especially if the board doesn't have solder on the little pads.

Or maybe I'm just traumatized, my first RGH was on a jasper and it died when i was checking the wire and pulled the pad.

You must have raged hard after that...

Have to agree with martin cpu pll bypass is a pain to solder. I've never done a slim so I wouldn't know about those but from the tutorials they seem easy enough

i honestly thought "B" (end of the leg) on the qsb was the hardest, its soooo small. my hand was shaking so much i thought i had the "DT's" after that it was pretty straight forward (well almost lol)

dale;)
