JTAG Alternative JTAG Wiring Setup (High Res Photo's)

Just thought I would share how I did my JTAG Wiring on a Zypher using Alternative Points AUD_CLAMP and DVD_TRAY as I have never seen it done this particular way. Hope this can help anyone looking to do a nice clean job.

What I did and used..

1. 30 Gauge Kynar Wire wrapped in 22 Gauge solid core shielding. Basically I stripped the shielding off the 22 gauge solid core wiring and ran the Kynar wire though it, protecting the wire as it's quite fragile.

2. Wrapped the Diode in same shielding and bridged it from the J2D1 joint to the DVD_TRAY point using no wire.

3. Soldered small piece of Kynar wire on the J2D1 points.

You're better to solder the diodes directly into J2D2.1 and J2D2.2 and then use kynar off to the points in question. As a rule you should never solder through hole components directly to SMD points on a PCB as you can have stress points which would ultimately lift pads (worst case).

Also, why are you not doing the transistor method?

Never really thought of it, I was under the impression that the Alternate SMC Points were best for the Zypher. I have all the stuff for the transistor method, just never tried it.

As of yesterday I no longer have the console in question but I purchased a NIB sealed Jasper Arcade that I will try the transistor method on, very excited about that :)

Probably going to buy all the proper stuff and the NANDX for this one, I want it to be as pro as possible.

Transistor method rocks, will be using that from now on!
yes yes it does i found that out with my zephyrs but they still have their own personalities i mean i did 2 zephyrs via transistor method and one was fine with the original point while the other gave the occasional E79 on the original points and need'd to be switched to the alt wiring

Very clean. I am impressed!
Thanks, it's good to hear that!

I did transistor on 1 Zypher, 1 Falcon, and have no issues, particularly the Zypher.

I did get E79 on a Zypher with regular JTAG, but not AUD_CLAMP and DVD or Transistor, however the one Zypher would not take Xellous, only Xell, which is fine.

I am doing a Falcon now, it's throwing E79 on me with Xellous and Xell, not sure what the deal is, restoring the NAND now.
