Hi guys; So my 360 died a while ago but I've been thinking if this solution would work..

So I get the 3ROL but whenever I use the towel trick it comes back to life.. The problem is that my 360 only works for at the most 5minutes, and that's just by looking at the menu LOL. If I play a game then I'm lucky if I go for 3minutes..

If I do the towel trick, and then change the fans to the talismoon whisper fans, or get external fans, would that be of help? Thanks~

Whats up dude. I am not sure why people insist in trying the towel mod. All this is going to do is burn up all the other plastic components inside your 360. If you want to do it right , try to do the X-clamp mod on it. It is easy to do and work a lot better than the towel trick. I have fixed 2 360's with the X-clamp mod. the screws you need to buy you can find then at home depot or your local hardware store. I think they are 10mm long X 5mm thick. The best thing to do is once you have your 360 opened. Take one of the bolds out of the heat sink and get some 10mm long bolts with the same thread patter. Also you will need 8 bolts, 16 metal washers and 16 nylon washers. The nylon washers go toward the motherboard of your 360. Hope this help!

Trip9161,

When I first did the x-clamp replacement trick, it worked for a while. Then I still got the 3RLoD frequently after several days of game play. Then I had to loosen the bolts and retighten them. This works but then I have to repeat it each time I get the 3RLoD. I found a variation of the x-clamp replacement in which you allow the motherboard to overheat (go from the 3RLoD to 2 lights), cool, and then tighten the bolts. Supposedly this re-flows any solder that may have opened up. This seems to work well but occassionally I still have to repeat it again. Do you think that repeated overheatings of the motherboard will permanently damage it? Do you have any ideas for a permanent fix. I have added additional cooling already and used AS5 thermal paste.
