Right, Tomorrow I am going to install my executer 2.6ce and with the instructions it says i must flash the BIOS.
So i did a bit of reading and am now at this point:

I have created a 100mb dummy file to burn also.
Will this BIOS be ok?
If not what have i done wrong?
Do i just burn this to CD now and put it in my xbox?
I have downloaded slayer 2.6... what do i need to do with this?
thank you

Don't do it that way. First off, you have to determine what version Xbox you have. Then, get X2 5032. There will be two versions of the bios in there, one for 1.0 - 1.5, and one for 1.6/1.6b. Those are 512k files, so there is no need to resize them. Rename the appropiate file to BIOS.BIN, burn to a cd and flash. That will put 5032 on bank 1, and leave flashbios on bank 2.

Slayers will install a dashboard on your hard drive. It is used after you flash your bios.

is this correct then?
how come that guide states that it must be in bank 2?
when i flash my chip do i put the switch to bank one or two? and do i put flash protect on or off?

The link is for Evox M8 - it should have been clearer that X2 BIOSes work fine with Bank 1.

You don't need to resize the new X2 BIOS as it's 512k anyway. Just flash to the chip with FlashBIOS and it'll go to Bank 1 anyway.

The Flash protect should be off, but set to on after flashing successfully.

Right:

You have a 1MB chip - 2 x 512k Banks.

When you flash a chip, it erases the bank specified then flashes it.

IE flash a 512k BIOS (which goes to bank 1 automatically). It'll erase bank 1 and reflash with your chosen X2 BIOS, leaving bank 2 intact. Your FlashBIOS will still be bootable on Bank 2 if it goes wrong.

If you were to flash a 1024k BIOS and it went wrong, it would erase the entire chip!

Read up on X2 Config Live for help with this. It sits in the E:\ drive and enables you to customize the bootup of your new X2 BIOS. It's not needed however if you just want it to boot normally.

You don't need a new dashboard right now - once the BIOS is flashed and you're booting the Xecuter BIOS, you can play your backups, homebrew and imports.

brilliant that is fantastic.
when i have the chip in sometime today hopefully if i can find soldering iron, will put the 512k bios and the 100mb dummy file onto a dvd-r and turn the xbox in with that dvd in the drive with flash protect off and that should do it.
thanks for all your help mate :D
