Hello all, I am having some trouble with my original Xbox which has the xecuter mod installed on it and I was hoping I could find a solution here. I apologize in advance, I am not very familiar with the modding process but I’m trying to learn as much as possible in order to get this thing fixed. The mod was installed for me a couple of years ago by a guy I was stationed with in the Navy at the time, and now he is long gone and I’m left not really knowing what to do. I’ve had no issues and never really needed to know anything about its inner workings until yesterday. I'm not exactly sure if this is what caused the problem, but when I tried to turn it on I was charged with some static electricity and when I touched the power button it created a little shock. Ever since then, it always stays on whenever it is plugged in. If you push the power button it turns off for a half-second and then it turns itself right back on. However, the main problem is that it no longer boots to the mod. I can sometimes get it to boot to a BIOS flash screen, but from there I don't know what I’m doing. I tinkered with the few options: "flash from disc" and "flash from HDD" both said no file found, and I also tried the "lock HDD" and unlock HDD" options; when the HDD is locked, it boots like a regular xbox as if it was never modded, and when it is unlocked, the power ring flashes red and green and the screen says "service required". I took a look at the step by step instructions on how to flash the BIOS on this website and it doesn’t seem too complicated but I couldn’t find the files that it said I needed (bios.bin and dummy.bin). However, I don’t know if flashing would even fix this. Has anyone ever heard of this or have an idea of what I might need to do? Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Ok the two of ye need to get auto xbins / Google auto xbins download.
if you are running anti virus software it might say it has a virus it doesn't it's a false positive just allow it.
Then run it and you will see folders you want the XBox folder inside that you want >> Console Based Applications you will find the Bios and what ever else you need in there...
Just right click on what ever folder you need and download it to your PC. ;)

Cheese, I read your post and now I think I'm screwed. If I have to open up the box and start soldering and disconnecting wires to fix this I might as well throw it in a fish tank.

didnt mean to scare you....

and to the other guy... im not a noob at all... the problem we are both having is that when we plug the system in and it turns on the little red wire that actually goes to the power button is shorted to pretty much everything else on the chip.. including a ground of some sort and the xbox is taking that as the power button being held in for a long time... thus disableing the chip.... the probem is i cant figure out where it would have shorted out, i tested the wire to basicly any other point on the chip and i get a reading, when switching to the other pin i get nothing on the same points

might as well combine my post and this one since they appear to be the exact same issue

well not in those exact words but the way you said "the two of you"

and besides you could flash the chip all you want... still not gonna fix something thats shorted

i guess we could say that we were talking about two different parts of his issue, i did "bother my ass" to read his entire post, i just figured it better to try and solve the bigger of the problems than to solve one thats really gonna get him nowhere... for now anyway

btw did you bother to read the part about the static shock he said he had?.... sorry if i wasnt clear about that, maybe i should have said that part and not the part about the bios but i bet you if you could find out how to fix that it would boot back to the mod again, i honestly wasnt trying to be offensive or an ass

but back on subject, any ideas on what the static could have damaged?

The only reason i said the two of you is because you said you were having the exact same issue, i was trying to sort one of the problems eg. bios i read the whole post static part i do not know why both of ye are getting it not seen it before.
I have done quite a few xbox ones way back lol but it was all ways softmod exploit or hotswap so cant answer the static part..

no harm done, i looked at the chip closely just a minute ago and it seems that the one pin that seems to be shorted runs thru something that looks like a mini eeprom.... now i know thats not what it actually is but i dont know what to call it... a diode? i dunno but i suppose it could be a problem with that?

i never personally trusted soft mods all that much... dunno why though

dunno why you didn't ether lol softmod is backed up eeproms /dash / the lot if done right.
What happens if you removed it and put it to like it was from day one ? eeprom is held on a chip on the motherboard would it still be ok curious to know would the static prob still be there i know where you can get a MS Dash 5960 (Clean) it can be done by hotswap idk just a mad thought lol..

if i had a locked hard drive id try, when i try without the hard drive locked it gives me an error 13

and i guess that last soft mod i did you could still mess up everything... been on hard mods ever since... x3 is awesome because of the back up rom and you could backup the eeprom to the chip if need be, the stock one stays untouched
