another d0 problem

I have a v1.0 box which had the old school 31 wire hookup. I bought a 2.6ce to replace that fossil and all it does is flash with no audio/video (couldnt tell you the colors since i installed blue LED's). So anyway it starts up fine with the chip when i have only the d0 wire disconnected, but no dice when i touch it on the via. So my question is... is there a chance the modchip, or switch for that matter, the issue or is it something else? And for the record, i've spent wayyy to long researching this so i've tried pretty much everything i have read plus i'm fluent in the electronics field so i'm very sure my soldering is up to class 3 specs.

Do you get the LED on the chip itself?

If so, have you checked to make sure you DEFINITELY have the correct d0 point? Also check the switch is properly connected via the wire harness. You may need something to push the connector firmly into place.

I get a blue light on the chip so it seems like its all good but as soon as i put the grey wire on the via it frags. I am very sure i'm putting it in the right spot as i tried both top and bottom d0 points, even the the small ass via right next to that tantelum cap ( i fried the pad at the alternate d0 on the bottom so i have a jumper wire). I have also plugged all connectors in and out numberous times so i am out of ideas except... I was thinking about putting a jumper on the switch connector to see if the switch is the culpret. I'll have to look around to see which ones to short.
By the way, Thanks for your time Martin, it's much appreciated.

Was the chip brand new? have you tried both banks?

As it's fragging when the d0 wire is connected, it's a good indication that it's trying to read from the LPC. Therefore, just spend a few mins and check your LPC points again. I do realise you're no n00b at soldering, but the best of us can still make mistakes!

Very true, very true. The chip is brand new and i tried both banks a bunch of times, even the flash protect i turned off and on. I'll look over the lpc part again even though i already re-soldered all of them. Is it possible that the switch could be a concern? Ohhh i just remembered something... when i plugged the wire harness into the chip (after i tried the pin header) i plugged it in wrong so 1 row of pins were in and the other row was outside the connector, could that possibly screw things up?
Thanks again man.

Unplug the switch cable from both ends - check both the chip and the switch to see if you have accidentally bent one of the pins. Try the chip with the switch removed. The Xbox should boot normally with the d0 connected as it would be in disabled mode. If this works then it's definitely something to do with the switch, the switch wires or the switch socket on the chip.

The box will boot up fine with the bank switch unplugged. I just noticed all the leds on the board and the lan led is the only one that lights up on the switch. I saw a thread where someone jumped a couple pins on the modchip switch connector so its enabled w/o the switch but i cant find it again. Well i guess i'm going to keep looking and hopefully give that a shot...

well i got the led issue takin care of... everything lights up as it should. I noticed when it frags it stays on a little longer when the ribbon cable from the dvd drive to the mobo is disconnected. It reboots right when the the dvd drive starts up, otherwise with that cable connected the drive is silent. I'm gunna get a new chip, this thing is nothing but trouble.
