Another Lost DVD Key

Hello all, this is my first post here, and I'm still in the learning process of all of this so go easy on me :)

Anyways, here's my situation.
I picked up a Pro with a Xenon board and 8599(If i remember correctly, I know it was newer than the Jtag-Able dashboard) on it.
It has a BenQ Drive that does not have a matched Dvd key to the system. And I have no way of getting the original drive (yay craigslist!).

I've been prowling google for hours to find a way to get to my dvd key so I can flash the drive that's in this thing. I also have a working Toshiba/Samsung drive I can use if that makes any difference.

From what I've read, I am SOL. However everything I've come across is 2-3 years old and figured there must be SOME way of getting to the data I need to get a dvd drive working in this thing.

All I've seen so far is the CoolRunner, but it seems like a lot of work just to get my dvd key.
So I want to know what my options are.

Thanks!!

As oO Elite Oo said, easiest way is to get a coolrunner installed andboot into Xell, This will then tell you the DVD key as well as the CPU key. Then just write the key to the drive in JF.

Haha I know, it was cheap :p
So just to be sure the coolrunner will work with the xenon board?

All you can do is try to RGH it (May never boot of course), and get your key from XeLL. But like you said looks like a lot of work...

Like TeaJunkie said, Upgrade.
Else you might just have a cheap DVD player that'll crap out quickly if left on for to long (if it doesn't Glitch) ;) :rolleyes2:
Or a normal xbox that will also crap out quickly if left on for to long (if it works) ;)

I have a Jtagged Xenon that I reballed and it's been going 2 years strong. Can't say that for my son's Jasper. ;)

Granted xenon's are junk but a reballed Jtagged Xenon's are still fun. Fast boot times :)

Baw, if you are lucky enough to RGH it and get it to glitch (slim chance) then you can grab the DVD key in xell, otherwise there isn't much you can do about the lost drive key.

Yeah, I didn't know it was a Xenon until I opened it up.
But it's not a big deal, If I get it working I can always make some money on it - It's one of the Halo 3 editions.

I also found that It has a brand new laser in it, because the person that had it before me didn't take anti-static solder ball off :)

The Xclamps were already taken off so I will also stick some arctic silver on the heatsinks.

From what I can tell the chips havent been reflowed either, so it could be one of the "better" xenon boards.
This could actually be a good system!
