Ok I may be blind but I don't see any apps after flashing my X3 CE with the 1959 1.6 plus ect ect bios? I also don't see any threads for what to do after you have it flashed. I can get in to the x3 config and everything works. But game back ups aren't working and I see no apps. can some one point me to a thread or help... Thanx.

If you are getting the X3 Config Live screen (like it sounds like) then game backups should work fine. My guess, either you burned them to a format that your drive won't read, or you burned them incorrectly.

The Xecuter bios does not come with "Apps". Find those in the usual places, like you did the bios file.

Everyone has their own opinion of which Dashboard to use, but if you get Avalaunch, it will download multiple apps and install them for you. Very, very simple to use.

I have plenty of apps, and know where to get more (thanks xbins!!!) And now I have the Evox dash board loaded per the X3 for noobs tutorial. BTW it never mentioned to unlock the hard drive. Anyway, so now I guess I am set. My back ups play on my buddies modded box so I am not sure why they aren't working on mine. I am getting the hang of this though.. I will be shortly upgrading the old HDD since I am already close to out of room. So thanks for the replies! If there is a setting some where I need to set to get it to read the disks let me know.. If they should automatically come on then I am doing something incorrect.

Reading the "disks"
Different DVD ROM Drives in different versions of the XBOX are more and less picky as to what they will read. it's quite possible that a burn that works on 10 other machines won't work on yours. Me and one of my Thompson drives can vouch for that

Another Amen. I'm, at some point, getting the replacement 616t drive. I'm tired of this picky drive crap. Why doesn't MS put decent ****ing drives in their xboxes? We're paying 149 bucks for their systems.

... because you are paying $149 for their systems. Microsoft make nothing on the Xbox. It is a loss leader. They make their money on the games and licencing. So, if you aren't making money on the Xbox, you are going to want to contain costs - so you go for something cheaper. They don't need to put in a drive that does anything else - especially one that reads the budget DVD+/-RW disks you picked up as a 20 pack (free after rebates) from Office Depot.

The Thompson drive works within specs - that it, it reads DVDs that are mastered by/for Microsoft.

When you think of it. $149 ($200 CDN to me) is quite cheap. A whole working 64 Meg 733 Mhz 8 Gig HD computer for $149. of course they're going to use the cheapest parts they can find! heck. a gaming graphics card for your actual computer costs more than that...

(and yes i know there's a difference in resolution and capabilities.. it was just an aside.)

Ok so is the Phillips drive that is in the v1.6 xbox a picky one? How do I find out what disks I should use to burn with? My burner does either so it matters not to me. The ones I have burned are dvd+r, so I am going to assume it won't use them.
