I've recently (about a month ago) made the switch to Red Hat 9.0: I'm never going back!
- First of all, this OS is rock solid. It doesn't crash no matter what!
- Second, system resources! It doesn't hardly use any. For example, today I was downloading, like, 10 Red vs Blue videos from their website to be FTPed to my XBox, and for each file I was using, I was still getting a the least, a transfer rate of 50 kbps. This is in stark contrast to my mom's Windows machine, where the transfer rate dropped dramatically (it was about 30 kbps or less) once I began downloading 3 or more videos. Yes, this probably has more to do with my browser (Mozilla), but I'm sure the OS helps.

- Lots of free, quality downloadable software... need I say more?

Now, this switch has not gone without a hitch. For example, as my name my suggest, I am a Linux n00b. I'm still having difficulty installing software. I'm also having difficulty getting my sound driver to work. I've had this problem with every computer i've tried to put it on, but each one has had a similar card. Rockwell something-or-other. Right now, I'm not using sound, but I could if I had enough time to investigate it. (Doesn't really hurt me right now, because I don't really use my computer for my media center: my XBox does that)Life is really busy right now. This summer, before I head off to college, I'm going to become very profient in it's use and configuration.
Everybody and thier brother should switch to Linux! You won't regret it. Unless you use your computer for lots of gaming, at which point, just use a dual-boot. Use the Linux partition for the real work.

PS: I'm going to be working full-time during the summer, so at the end of the summer before I head off, I plan on buying a Mac PowerBook, with the Super Drive and wireless router. Good stuff.
