I got an invite and signed up for Gmail recently. To my frustration you can't access it without Active X controls. They offer a "basic" version for use without Active X....which redirects you to the page telling you to turn on activeX

Seems silly to me!

I'm g- $$$:) No, I don't have it either but was invited also. I don't want any more Activex crap either though so I will pass too.

I'm a big g-mail user...

I use mozilla and what I did was allowed active-x just for that site.

When you get to the site you can click it on when that bar shows up across the top of the window... like the pop-up blocker.

I think I just set my mozilla to ask before it runs active x per site.

In any event, for a free web-mail server... they can't be beat!

Interesting thoughts...

Well i got a response from their tech support and they managed to get me hooked up with a non-active X version. So it's all good. I must admit, I like the idea of haveing 2Gig of storage space!!

as with the active-x thing, you can go to tools/options/security: trusted sites, add the main website for g-mail in there, change the settings in "trusted sites" to allow active-x controls to run and anything else that needs to be enabled. I do that with every site I trust, and if I run into another that needs active-x, I just add it to trusted sites and it's good. Give that a try.

You don't need active x, the standard interface is JavaScript and works in Firefox etc no problem - if you don't want the flashy JavaScript interface you can load the plain HTML interface as described above. I've had Gmail since a couple of weeks after it was announced, best webmail I have tried.
