Is there anyother way of loading evox onto the HDD with out using a boot disc. I've tried my trusted boot disk that has worked on countless other boxes but not this one, tried every dvd and cd i have and it won't read it. Im running a 2.6 with X2, samsung DVD. I've searched and read all kinds of posts, but nothing mentioned alternatives to using the boot disc for a dashboard load.

thanks

If you are comfortable and familiar with flashing your chip there is another way. Some time ago the X2 BIOS had a built in FTP server. Don't know how it worked, it was only done as a proof of concept project and later removed when the memory was needed for other features. This should still be available on xbins I think, you'll need to look at the revision history to find out what the last BIOS was with the server built in. Again, I've got no idea how to use it. If you have a 1.6 Xbox this WILL NOT WORK. This predates when Xecuter had an X2 BIOS compatible with the 1.6 motherboard.

Alternately, if you are installing a new HDD and have access to a second modded Xbox that reads boot discs you could first install the drive in that box. Set up EvoX (or other dash of choice) and then move the drive to the new box. You'll need to be sure and leave the drive unlocked in this process. Of course, if you do have access to a different box that will read your boot disc then you could just swap DVD drives for the install as well...

thanks for the tip, figures that I am running a 1.6, so I think I'll toss his HDD in to my working xbox and get evox onto it, or toss my DVD into his.

come to think of it, my box has a X3 in it and its a 1.6, maybe ill just toss my chip into his box (its got the xapter installed) and ftp into X3 bios and transfer that way. That'll work right?

Same pinheader and I think the same D0 plug, so you should be good to go. With the X3 you shouldn't even need to plug in the switchbank IIRC, just hook up the chip and boot while holding down the white button on the controller.

i took it apart again, figured out I have a 1.6 and this one im working on is a 1.6b, so my chip's bios isnt gonna work on his. I re assembled his xbox, tossed in a AID3 disk i made and sure enough , it read it and I got what I needed onto the HDD. Figures I had to take it apart again to make it work.

thanks for the suggestion though.
