So as I found out yesterday, the Falcon I purchased from craigslist is more than likely a total loss. E74 and once I account for shipping its going to be almost 100 bucks. I have since decided I will be buying a new rgh box from one of the registered modders on this site.

I have taken apart the falcon to see how bad the inside looks. Now as I have no solder knowledge I am looking for some expert opinions here:

1). Is this a legit RGH Chip? I read in the forums a lot about knock offs but I have no idea what I'm looking at.

2). Is anything in this worth saving? I am going to be shipping my HDD off to someone on the site to have the data moved on to the new RGH xbox I end up buying and didnt know if I should hold on to any parts to ship with it?

That's a fake coolrunner unfortunatly the console itself may come in useful to someone after a new GPU

Yeah, that is a knock-off cool runner. Sorry about your luck . If you stick to buying from reputable sellers from the TX forums, you will be in good shape, and most of them will make it RIGHT if something bad happens after the sale.

Yeah I'm already planning on buying from one of the sellers on here. Just have to wait a few weeks to purchase, seeing as how I just bought a black $200 paperweight. LOL

another question: when box was working if I removed the HDD, the box would boot to the retail dash. If i get an RGH Jasper, can i just use this phat HDD without having to format it? I moved my Borderlands 2 and Diablo 3 saves onto it and now cannot access.

You can just use the old hdd and put it onto the replacement console no need to format.

I offered to replace the GPU and put in a used CR I have lying around but even to post it to me it too high. I was thinking if there was somone clos to him and if they were willing to donate their time and skill I would post the parts to them and we can get this xmas gift gone wrong sorted out.

Ok, is there anyone near IL willing to do it? I will send the parts to you, GunShy will send you his box and you swap his GPU and put the TX coolrunner in place of the fake.
