First of all a big thanks to Martin for the Noob Q & A guide that I wrote and he kindly answered. It also made a Sticky. Combining my questions with his answers I certainly found it easy to use. We hope a noobs like me also find it useful. Let’s see if we can do the same here.

Reading through this 1.6b forum it would seem that there are a few issues relating to the X2 / X3 modchips and 1.6b’s. Having completed my mod on a 1.6b X2 I am now faced with a few issues.
We all know that Flash bios 3.0.3 must be placed in Bank 1 and Evox m8_1.6 in bank 2 for an X2. All worked fine but here’s the crunch.

1. The clock constantly needs resetting each time.(known issue)
How can we fix this?

2. The bios screen sometimes resets when going through the dash settings (does not happen very often) Is this a known problem?

3. Most of the backup games I have tried seem to hang at some stage with a horrible audible noise. System resets when you the eject disc. Is this linked to the above problems? I know the installation is ok! (Ex electrical engineer)

It would seem that the first thing we need to establish is if there is an incompatibility issue the new 1.6b’s and the M8_16 bios?

If so is this the cause of the above problems?

If not is it the newly used Hynix memory and the M8-16 bios conflicting? I have read a few scripts on this.

Any finally is there a bios fix for the above? Has a tutorial been written for any fix?

Any comments gratefully welcomed.

The M8plus16 BIOS is the newest Evox BIOS. It fixes issues with Hynix RAM etc, but agreed - there are still people whose Xboxes completely reset when the eject button is pressed.

As there is only one flavour of 1.6b BIOS at the moment (ie Evox), it's hard to troubleshoot this.

All I can tell you is that the X3 1959plus16 BIOS for X3 doesn't have these problems and therefore once TeamXecuter write a 1.6 compatible X2 BIOS, these problems should go away. For instance, you shouldn't need to boot it from Bank 2!

Thanks once again Martin for your quick response. You have confirmed what I feared might be the case. Reading nearly all the forums in this section it would seem that this problem is fairly common and will get more persistent as only 1.6b Xbox’s become available.
The thing I can’t get my head round is why not all 1.6b’s running X2’s and M8+16 bios DON’T suffer from the same issue. Very strange!!

as a quick fix for the clock resetting, i found that if u put the m8plus16 bios on both banks the clock will stop resetting and hopefully games stop crashing, though i still find the loading times to be very slow, and alot of dvds(films) wont play properly if at all. like marting said, once the new x2 bios is released by team xecuter all these problems should go away.

I have a 1.6b and X2.6 chip. It is flashed with flashbios3.03 in one bank, and yoshihiro in the other. I have NO issues with games or dvds locking up. The only issues with my box is the clock resetting when resetting from the controller, and 50 percent of the time it won't boot when resetting, I actually have to power down for at least 5 seconds, then turn it back on.

You may find that the M8plus16 BIOS performs better than Yoshihiro's. Then again it may not. It may be worth you trying it to see the result.
