I can't find the answer after searching around for a little while. In any case, how do you get that little preview icon for emulators stored on your xbox? You know, so when I go to the "Apps" section in my dashboard, you see a little icon for it? Thanks.

Lol, that's nothing to be ashamed of, I don't even know what the hell you're talking about.

I was reading on another site. Cant remember which one. It was one of the more popular sites that offer dashboard and other skins. Basically u just create another png file or something like that rename it correctly and put it in the emu folder. Sorry if i remember the site name id post it but its slipped my mind for now.

edit: found it http://www.xbox-skins.net/

view thier forum for information like that.

hmm wouldnt let me edit it.

Heres what i found as well

Icons
An Avalaunch Icon is basically a picture displayed on your screen showning an image of a highlighted item. Most Xbox games have an imbedded picture that avalaunch will automatically display if you hve the icon display option enabled. Most Applications and Homebrew software on the other hand doesn't.

The easiest way to get apps without imbedded icons to display one is to open up your avalaunch.xml and go to the icons section. First you will see an option labled display make sure this is set to "1". Next you will see an option labled override change this option to "2". This will not only make sure that any icons you add will be displayed but that any icons you add to an app or game that has an embedded picture will be ignored and your custom icon will be displayed.

Now that you xml is setup correctly lets add an icon. You can use any picture you want for an icon but make sure that it is in .png (Portable Networks Graphics) format and is sized to 128 x 128 pixels. Adding an icon is easy. Simply rename the image.png to avalaunch_icon.png and place the image in the folder containing the app or games's default.xbe file. Avalaunch will auto detect the image and display it on your screen. *note that you may need to reboot your xbox before the changes will take affect.*
*also note that at this time it is not possible to add an icon to the main screen entries like the settings and Irc options.

@Nightfall Z

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. Funny no one really knew what I meant. I thought it was a pretty common question, just couldn't remember where I read the answer. You know in your dash if you go under "Apps" there's a little thumbnail icon for your programs? I was trying to get one for a few of the emulators I have, namely xsnes, and pcsxbox. I'll try this out later, though I am using XBMC, I think this should set me on my way. I'll let you guys know. Thanks.

Got an icon pack from http://xbox-skins.net/ but I'm still not sure on how to apply these.

I tried renaming after the emulator itself, the folder, "avalaunch_icon.png", "default.png, and it all failed so far. So now I'm a little confused but hey....

I'll mess around with it some more later, and let you know what I get. Thanks.

Yeah man post your success back here. I'm also interested in this, some of my emulators/homebrews don't have icons and I would like to.

Found the resolution.

Use a 128*128 pic, and put in the folder with your emulator.

Rename the pic "default.tbn"

You may have to scan the directory again for the thumbnail to appear now, but that's what did it for me. Maybe this can save someone a little time in the future.
