If you have a 1.6b version xbox then read carefully.

There are two versions of flashbios that are shipped pre-installed on your X3 chip.

Flashbios 3.01 Works on all versions except v1.6b
Flashbios 3.03 Works on all versions except v1.6

The flashbios is located on the X3 chip as follows.
Banks 1-4 v3.01 on,on,off,off
Banks 5-8 v3.03 off,on,off,off
Backup v3.01 (press pwr & eject together)

You therefore have only one working flashbios located in Banks 5-8 , if you accidentally overwrite this area with a bad flash or incorrect bios you have no simple method to reflash your x3.

Boot your xbox with switch settings off,on,off, off.
Once you have flashbios on the screen and whilst the xbox is STILL SWITCHED ON change the switches to Banks 1-4 (on,on,off, off) BEFORE you begin to flash a new bios.

If the flash fails for any reason then reset the switches to off,on,off, off reboot the flashbios3.03 and repeat the above procedure.

Please also note that at the time of writing this the correct bios is 3294 v16plus.

Once you have a good flash on banks 1-4 you can go ahead and use Config Live to reflash the backup bios with Flashbios 3.03.
This will then provide you with the facility to use pwr+eject to get to a flashbios screen in the event your 2 x 1M banks have problems in the future.

NOTE:-If you did overwrite your only working flashbios then your going to need a friend with a modded xbox (that is not a 1.6b) and flash your chip on his/her modded xbox.
The only other alternative is to return your X3 to your supplier asking them to reflash the flashbios banks for you.
There would probably be a charge to this.

Nice work. I tried posting something similar with a bit of troubleshooting since there are so many versions of "it doesn't work".
This should be good enough for just a flashing procedure for 1.6b.

We do need something sticky about 1.6b. People just keep screwing that up.

It's not a 1.6b if you can get Flashbios v3.01 to boot on the backup. Other than that it seems you did everything correctly. I would try a different bios to test it out so boot from the backup then set your switches to <on on off off Protect off> and flash with either evox.m8.v16.fc.137 OR evox.m8plus.v16.fc.137.

This is different I have been reading all day and it seems to me that this is something new this xbox is brand new and so isn't the chip.

http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions.php

I used this link to check versions to start with and yes I confirmed it again according to the steps it is v1.6B I even took digital pics of the insides to confirm all that is inside. Xbox Video Hynix ram.

Thanks I will try it.

it flashed on 3.03 and says failed after flashing on the 3.01 backup. But now the bios I installed just started to work I think, it didn't at first. With 2 on and the rest off it shows the Xbox "Xecuter rox my box" logo at the bottom then goes straight to regular Xbox options is that what it is suppose to do? I thought it would go to something different.

I flashed Xbox Bios Evox m8 16 Bin <on on off off Protect off> to the backup and it flashed ok then shut down. I tapped the button with the <on on off off Protect off> and ithe eject button blinked 3 times green and flashed red. It still boots with a tap and <off on off off Protect off> to the xbox logo the to xbox menu screen.

Any suggestions?

Hey thanks a whole lot

if u get the rox my box logo then try holding white button whilst its booting.
This should take you into Config Live.

the evox bios did not flash to backup bios btw. You can only do this from config live.
you probably have the evox m8 in the first 256k bank...try it with all switches on.
better to use the x3 bios though that you seem to have flashed in the second 1M bank (off,on,off, off). There are no x3 features in the evox bios.

It's a shame I didn't find this post earlier today!!! (Believe me I have been searching).

I installed solderless X3 mod yesterday - all correct LEDs on the xapt3r and the chip itself, that part went well.

My first problem was when I turned my xbox on for the first time, expecting to see the FlashBIOS screen. Nothing. I had a black screen and orange LEDs.

I eventually found help from DJBOOBY's X3 Troubleshooting guide "if you have a 1.6b xbox, then switch the chip to the second 1mb bank (off on off off off) and try to boot again". (Gives a link to forum dedicated to XBOX V1.6b problems on Team Xecuters v1.6b help - but it is broken!)

Yes, finally, I got the FlashBIOS screen (FlashBIOS 3.0.3) and did the http method - it all went so well ... or so I thought!

I think I flashed my bios with the wrong bin file. In a total muppet moment, I think I selected X3_3294.bin, instead of X3_3294_v16plus.bin. So now when I turn on my box I get flashing red and green. If I try to boot to the backup I get orange.

So because I have the v1.6b and now have f****d the the second 1mb bank, with no backup that works.

AAAAARRRGGGG I suppose I'm going to have to send my chip back to be reflashed.

I just thought I'd bump this post.

Xbox v1.6b
No Dash - new hard drive
No BIOS - cos it shagged

Some people have managed to get the backup bios working on a 1.6b after over 50 tries. You can keep on trying before you send it off.

Thanks Poida^

Are you serious though? Won't it mess something else up in my box, turning it on and off 50 or more times? (I used to get told off as a kid, for turning the tv on and off repeatedly, said I'd break it or blow it up!!)

Do I need to set the bank select to anything special or should they all be off?

Then just hit power on and eject?..... Are you serious? I am a bit of a noob, this is my first mod and I can't see how that would work.

I checked out that link and did try booting to the backup for nearly two hours (I have an exciting life!). That must be 50 times. But to no avail.

And the other S**T thing is that I heard back from mrmodchips.co.uk and they say they don't reflash chips. So I have to find someone now that can reflash my X3.

I live near Cambridge (UK) if anyone can help.

It doesn't take that long to boot 50 times... It took me less than 5 minutes.
