I did some searching and didn't find this specifically.
A common problem, especially if new(b) to modding, is forgetting to unlock
the HD prior to EEPROM change, or forgetting to make a backup. How about having an Auto-Unlock option as a failsafe against hosing your HD? When you restore, modify, or change the EEPROM in any way, the BIOS would automatically unlock the drive. If you accidentally changed the EEPROM, or changed it and forgot to unlock, they you're protected. Maybe include a message that informs the user of the failsafe unlock.
Additionally, have an option the user can turn on/off that automatically backs up the existing EEPROM prior to change.
This would save a lot of peoples asses. It might even reduce the HELP!-I'VE-FUBAR'D-MY-HDD/EEPROM posts.
