ANSWERED Avatar fix 13604

Hey guys im doing what i hate doing and asking for help. This is what ive got.

Xbox 360 Slim Trinity with QSB+Coolrunner
Pre Jtag i had 13604 Update.

what im trying to do is get the avatars working again and it says "install avatar update" so ive followed several guides in updating it via USB updating the launch.ini noupdate=false, and the point of changing the S to an $ and it wont work.

if anyone can help but need more information feel free to ask and i will tell u what ever you need. and most importantly.

so you have named your update back to "$systemupdate" ?

Hey Benie thanks for the quick reply.

yeah ive had it named $Systemupdate and $$ystemupdate with no provail. thought first of all it was the dashlaunch launch.ini i needed to mod but found out it was the (for the slim) launch that was in "Flash" but it already said noupdate=false. i usually find out stuff for myself and solve it but it just wont do anything. booting to FSD or normal dash.

I have just tried it on a brand new 4gb slim i have here ... once i named the update to "$$ystemupdate" and plugged in my usb it picked up and updated fine.. all i have installed in dashlaunch (no fsd or anything)

Where did you get your update files? are you sure they are the correct ones?

regretablly i got it from another website. however i will check xbins and see if its there. but whilest i look. is there anything else on the usb or does it JUST have to be the update? and i have dashlaunch and FSD installed so what do i boot to? FSD or Orig? thanks in advanced

Edit: Just checked xbins and its not on there but ill try to find an ALT link for it unless you can suggest one?

It shouldn't matter what you boot to. As long as you have a proper MU defined for the console (either internal MU, HDD, or USB MU) it will pick up the update - no destination = no message.

So try $SystemUpdate then $$ystemUpdate. If neither work, list the first few files you have in the folder.

Hey martin booted up my xbox and loaded xexmenu.

i have a 500gb HDD setup which has been formatted using Original Dash so its legit and contains:

Name.txt (dunno wtf that is but o well)

i press (X) and i have several choices

ok - if you rename the $SystemUpdate folder to $$ystemUpdate, that does nothing?

Make sure you are putting $$ystemUpdate and NOT $$SystemUpdate!

Hey. ive just done everything i thought might work and it didnt. removed HDD and formatted usb pen to fat32 again and made sure it was the only folder on there with no provail. even to the extent of renaming "$Systemupdate, $$ystemupdate" so im gonna download the update from m$ and see what happens

DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM A 3RD PARTY DOWNLOAD SITE DOWNLOAD DIRECT FROM M$.

The update from xbox.com works (for YOUR FreeBOOT version only) and installs avatars/kinect without a hitch, it's just a case of getting the installation procedure correct.

indeed i downloaded the "Update" from a website which i will not name and will never return back to because there full of .....
if in doubt TX thanks again guys to all that helped me. now i can see my avatar again lol
