Is any update on a game disc a full replacement of Dashboard? I didn't think so because I have applied two or three updates in the past and I didn't have to reflash the firmware back to the stock firmware before applying the update. I remember thinking when I did it "DAMN I hope this doesn't cause a problem applying this update". Yet the updates were applied successfully without a problem. Obviously, I am missing something very basic here about the update process. BTW, I NEVER go on-line with my XBox.

Can one assume that if you get the message that "this game requires an update before the game can be played" that your new game disc has checked the current Dashboard level and determined that it's not at the level required to play this new game?

It appears that you must restore your firmware back to the stock firmware before applying a Dashboard update? Is that correct?

Given what appears to me to be quite a few Dashboard updates required by certain new games that you are going to have to restore the original firmware, update the Dashboard from the new game disc and reflash with the latest firmware fairly often. Are most people using the Blaster CK3 so they don't have to disassemble the XBox 360 every time?

I was very surprised that a certain new game caused a System Error screen to appear along with a flashing red lower right quadrant on the ring.

I apologize for all the basic questions. I have read through all the things that I can find yet I don't seem to be able to find the answers to these very, very basic questions.

If there is some very, very basic documentation please direct me to it.

Thanks,

My current Dashboard level on the Samsung equipped XBox is 2.0.12625.0. I believe that the latest Dashboard from MS is 2.0.13599.0. I don't know what it is on the Hitachi equipped XBox because it's apart waiting patiently for me to figure out what to do to get it updated.

I believe that I am going to have to put in that certain new game let it update the Dashboard on the stock firmware Hitachi drive and then go through the process of updating the firmware. It's complicated by the fact that I believe that I must replace the Hitachi drive because it's physically scratching discs. I purchased this original (2005?) Xbox for my grandsons. They told me it scratched their discs so I bought them another Xbox and I now have this one. I am tempted to update this original DVD drive firmware with the latest dashboard, if that's what this game wants to do and then apply the modified firmware, put it back together and see if it is in fact scratching the discs.

I am a bit confused about how to put in a new Hitachi drive if that's required and maintain the key and whatever else is necessary to get the updated firmware into it. I just seem to be missing a couple of steps.

Thanks,

from what Im aware most games get an online update.. (only occurs when xbox is plugged into the network) but they don't update the dash..

also maybe try downloading the update from the web and putting it on a usb to update the dash. then flash it to 1.91

hope this helps

Wave 12 games (starting with Rugby World Cup 2011) come with the 13146 update on the disk. I think it's the French or German version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution that is also Wave 12.

Flash your drives back to stock, do the update via USB, then re-flash them with the latest firmware.

If your Hitachi is anything other 78 or 79 then you can leave that one as it is (if it's already on 1.1)

You can do a little mod to stop the scratching discs problem, just need to put some foam pads inside the drive.

if its just an LT+ update you can just flash straight to the new lt version.if there is a dash update you have to flash back to stock,do the update and then flash back to LT+
