backing up games

when backing up games for xbox360 using the samsung method, do u have to have a VIA chipset when u connect the sata cable to ur xbox drive?
i have a samsung ms28 and i flashed it on a friend's computer who had the appropriate chipset.
i cba bothering him everytime i want to backup a game, and i dont want to try it on my motherboard because i'd have to burn a dvd dl

For the ms-28 yes you need a via chipset

You only need the VIA for flashing, not for backing up games. You can use any SATA that supports optical drives for backing up games, once the drive has already been flashed.
