Ok, have looked through COUNTLESS posts on dirty disk errors and loads of bad installs for this error so hope I can get some answers. All posts I have found with this problem of mine have led to unresolved problems.
I moded 2 boxes this weekend. Both with X3's and xapters, and both with 1959 BIOS.
Both xapters had good connections with 3 blues lights and the quick-flicker of red on the fourth.
The first was a 1.0 with Thompson drive and had to ftp the BIOS
Second was a 1.5 with Samsung Drive and took bios from DVD-R immediately upon inserting DVD into drive.
Only thing I changed on config is start-up on config setting to disabled.
Both boxes will boot games and play for aprox 1-5 minutes then lock up or get dirty disk error. After about half an hour on BOTH systems of trying to get other games to work, system will get to xbox logo and X3 rox my box then won't progress any farther or just go to xbox default "...cannot read disk. Check disk to see if dirty or scratched..." screen. I am using Ritek dye DVD-R's.
Both boxes had x-2.6's installed previously and read the exact same games and worked fine.
Please help if any ideas. I understand one, but not both different systems doing this on brand new chips and seemingly flawless installs.
Thanks!
