Hi, I was going to text books tutorial as i am a noob. Very informative by the way so thanks TEX. I read threw before attempting anything and reached the point to backup where you install the correct drive to the pc. Well i have a laptop. My question is, is this possible to do without a desktop? Thanks in advance.

Not really. You can flash a Hitachi 46, 47, and 59 using a SATA > USB adapter, but that's basically it. I don't know about PCMCIA cards though.

yes your correct, you will need a pc with sata connectors on the motherboard this is the only way to connect the pc to the xbox360.

Sorry guys i hope i am not getting a little redundant but i am just getting alittle confused as i read more. I will first open to see what verison i have since i already know i have an hitachi and hopefully not ver78 so i can use slax. So can i use blaster to flashfirmware? Or do i need both blaster and usb connectivity kit? Or do i have to be directly connected to motherbroad to flash drive for the first time? I read the tut again and i think only rom78 has to be directly contected to motherbroad. Please correct me if i am wrong. Thanks

First, Slax works with v0078 drives. If you're trying to get this to go as smoothly as possible using a laptop is probably not the best idea. If you don't have a desktop I'd recommend going to a friend's house and using theirs or something like that. That being said, if you have any Hitachi other than a v0078 you could buy the X360USB and that should work. Blaster only allows you to get into modeB and re-flash without having to open the case every time but you still have to open the case the first time to install it so it's not worth it IMO. They all have to be connected to the motherboard somehow, whether directly in or through a PCI card.
