Bad Switch

I have a bad switch. If I put it on the 2.6 chip, it does not work, no lights, no nothing, not even on the chip. If I put a known good switch on the same chip, works like a charm. Anyone else able to fix one? I know I read somewhere that some switches had bridged connections. I will take off the back and look, but if you know where the "usual place" is to check, let me know.

Recently added were steps to check the pins with a multimeter. You'll namely want to check the 5v IN to 5v OUT circuit. Goes through the enable/disable switch. You may want to peel back the double sided foam tape to get to the underside of the switch. There are two sets/rows of 3 contacts per switch, the middle pin on each row is the switched lead to the outer pins on the same row. One row switches the 5v, the other switches the enable/disable lead. (grounds D0.) The row that carries the 5v will have the wider traces going to the points.

I'll see about adding a diagram/pic to detail this bit either later this week or next.

If you can't fix it the good news is that there are a few vendors that sell the X2.6CE switches separately should you need to buy a replacement. You can check the recommended resellers on the Xecuter homepage. I know www.themodchip.com has them in their repair parts section for $5 each. They've had some sketchy reviews on X-S but FWIW they came through for me in early September.

Oh yeah, here's my sig. :D

Thank Big_Whoopin, hopefully I will have some time to see if I can fix it over the next few days.

Big Whoop,

I booted a xbox up with a good switch and then put this one on it and of course the chip did not light up. But then I started flipping the switches and when I switched the on/off to off one time, the red led came on for a brief flash. So I pushed on it hard to the left (off) and it lit solid red. But if I let go, it went dead again. Then I played with it some more and if I put it half way between off and on, it will light up totally (enabled). I cannot test right now (in the middle of tranferring alot of files overnight), but I think if I leave it in that position, it should boot the box up. It is ghetto, but maybe it will work. Any suggestions if that is fixable. I will test it tomorrow and let you know if it works.

You could fix it by putting a new switch in place of the bad Enable/Disable one.

I know this is old, but I had put this chip aside and now want to do something with it. If you move the enable/disable around a little it works. My question is, can I bridge some of the points on the bottom of the switch (or all 6) with solder to enable it until I get a replacement switch?
