BANK 2 ENABLED GIVES BLANK SCREEN

Hi,
I do need to enable bank 2 before flashing and turn flash protect off before flashing, right? I've read all the tutorials and am using X2.6 mod on a 1.6box. If bank 2 is not enabled Cromwell Flash bios boots up normally and I have the option to flash via disk/http etc. Is this good enough or do I need to enable bank2? I can't seem to update the BIOS this way, but that could be a media problem. Anyways I get this orange flashing light after a bit if I bootup enabling bank2. Please advise-totally clueless :(

As long as you can boot to FlashBIOS, you can flash your chip.

Just select the BIOS you want to flash and it will flash it!!

Remember to make a 1MB BIOS with FlashBIOS 3.0.3 (512k) and Evox M8plus16 (512k).

It will then flash the chip so bank 1 still has FlashBIOS and Bank 2 will boot to Evox BIOS.

How do you select the banks to be flashed? If I boot up and enable bank two and load evoX as the Bios, will it be saved on bank1 or 2? Also what happens to the "Stock" Cromwell Bios?will it be saved on bank1? or vice versa?

Boot the chip so FlashBIOS appears. (whatever bank has FlashBIOS on it)

Set to Bank 1.

Flash chip as specified.

Read my post again.....

First mod, read tutorials in full, just need confirmation

Thanks if anyone is able to help. I was having trouble finding well put-together information on modding on the interent and then I stumbled upon this place. There's info out there for sure, but this site has done an awesome job of compiling it all for anyone with any drive, etc.

My current situation is this: Old Xbox 360 Arcade or w/e. Bought a Hard drive later down the line to get on live. Basically it's the oldest, cheapest xbox there is. It started to make the infamous grinding noise, which I think is because of a motor or something (not the magnet), and eventually completely stopped reading discs at all. Now I am looking to replace it with a new DVD drive, and at the same time flash this new drive to play "my backed up" games.

I just opened it up to check, and the drive says f/w=ms28 on it. So I have a Samsung MS28?

I have two questions, first: To replace it, I get an identical Samsung MS28 drive, correct? And what chipset do I need to be able to flash it with JungleFlasher? Here is a screenshot of my chipset info screen--I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for if anyone can tell me if this is sufficient.

____________________________

If this chipset doesn't work, then I need to order a MS28 drive, and a VIA PCI card to flash it? Since it's not flashed to an Xbox, will I need to get the stock firmware off my drive that can't read, flash it to the new drive, and then flash the hacked firmware? Or can I just pop the hacked firmware on it?

Thanks if anyone can help--I think once I sort out the chipset/drive compatibility then I can do the rest inside JungleFlasher and with its tutorial.

Sorry, I didn't notice that. Don't know why Photobucket cut the pics down more than 1/3 the size. I can't get it to not post tiny pics, so I'll attach them.

It's should read fine, try it before ordering a via. Once you have the original fw spoof it with whatever fw you want & that well work on a new drive. Also the drive my just need to be cleaned & you can just swap the pcb of the two same model drive's.

By that do you mean save the firmware that's on the broken drive first, then mess with the newly ordered drive?

And thanks. I'll try with this setup before ordering the new card, then.

if your not confident in reflashing the new drive just swap over the pcb board inside the drive aslong as its the same make it will work.
