hey

i like the xecuter site a lot and all of the information it provides.. i have one question.. and please dont get mad if its been asked before or im in the wrong forum but..

if i want to go about modding my xbox from scratch what are the general steps i should take to get all setup (including modding, larger harddrive, plus keeping original harddrive, upgrading anything such as bios/startup screen, and changing casing to allow for larger harddrive)

thanks a lot for your help

p.s. what harddrive would you recommend

Well first and obviously, get an X3, its the best!!!

Assuming you know how to solder, your gonna need your basic solder tools. Soldering Iron, Solder (ROSIN CORE, NOT ACID!!!), Electircal Tape, Torqs rench (10 and 15 i think, correct me if im wrong) ect...

You dont need any case mod for a larger hard drive, thas only if you want to install more than one at a time. If you want both the stock Hard drive and a bigger one, check out the Xtender http://www.teamxtender.com/ .

You should probably want to find out what verison XBOX you have, this is gonna determine which bios you need and which installtion guide you should follow. You can pretty much bet that if your Xbox is brand new you got a 1.6 or a 1.6b (ewww). Check out version guide on xbox-scene to find out what version you got http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions.php . Xbox Linux also has a guide to determine your version by Serial Number.

Once you know your Xbox Version, and you have your X3, go back to the Team Xecuter homepage and click on the corresponding X3 Install guide for you xbox. Its to the top right if you havnt seen them yet. The Noob install guide is a great help there, DEFF go there first and read it over.

Next your gonna need your X3 BIOS, check out XBINS for that, most recent version is 1959. (Your gonna need an IRC program such as mIRC and an FTP client like FlashFXP if you want your bios.)

Changing the startup screen (Flubber and X logo) can be done through the X3 bios. As of right now only the colors can be changed through the bios.

Finally, a few words of advice, Double check all your solder points and tape them down when done. Read the Noob Install Guide fully and you''ll be fine. Last but not least, ignore any typos in this post.

Also, i recomend Western Digital or Seagat Hard Drives, size is fully up to you. I have a 120 gig right now, but im sure 80 gig would suffice.
(make sure its IDE, and set to cable select)

thanks a lot for your help...

i bought my xbox back in december of the year it came out so i should have a really early version.. also i once used xbox live on it so i dont know if that would affect anything

i have two more questions...

would it be alright if i got the solderless adaptor? im not too familar with soldering and i dont want to risk anything being messed up...

also, as far as ftping is that going to be easy? just plug it into my router and upload?

thanks again.. you guys are really helping me out with this project

Previoulsy having live wont do anything.. your fine.

You can get the Xapt3r for a solderless install... but i personally think soldering is easier and less expensive.

Honestly if you pick up some solder and a Soldering Iron from wallmart and just practice on an old circuit board im sure you'll be fine. Either way its up to you.

I agree with wrboyce, the xbox is big enough, the xtender is cool but damn is it big! I'd wait and see what Team Xecuter's been workin on.

thanks... i am prob. going to wait for the new solution as far as the box from xecuter

and i am going to prob. have a friend solder/help me solder because it is good to know anyways

after buying the x3 is it possible just to buy the xadaptor if i decide later not to solder?

also, how do i tell if my hd is lockable and is there a guide or anything to do that?

sorry for all the questions.. i just want to make sure i get all the right pieces before i buy anything

as far as the x3 control panel, X3LCD & the X3 Pro Switch should i purchase any of these items? will they be beneficial to me

thanks a lot.. this board has been a big help

p.s. one more thing... is there a chance i can permanently damage my xbox beyond recovery?... what is the likelihood.. im a little woried about this
