DICE has released a ginormous Battlefield 3 update on Xbox Live to prepare the ground for the launch of End Game, the shooter's latest DLC pack. It "contains improvements to the multiplayer portions of the game". The developer "strongly advises you download it." I suspect one reason for this is that the update actually contains all the End Game content, with the DLC download itself comprising a mere handful of megabytes - a glorified key. That's been the case with past packs, and it's still a fairly cumbersome way of going about things. On the upside, End Game looks rather good. The pack introduces four new maps, a couple of new modes, a trio of vehicles (including dirt bikes) and a new Dropship feature for Conquest, plus the usual achievements and assignments.

Producer Craig Mcleod thinks DICE has "forced the industry to step up" with Battlefield 3's DLC, and I'm minded to agree - neither Call of Duty nor Halo's DLC packs offer quite the same value for money. The developer may continue DLC support for Battlefield 3 past the release of Battlefield 4, which has been confirmed for next gen consoles.

Anybody buying this? Here are some Battlefield 3 End Game tips to ponder while you wait for the pack to arrive.
