IGN's doing the hush-hush-wink-wink thing again. The site has received an invite to a mysterious EA event in San Francisco on 26th March that could be connected to the future of Battlefield. On 30th January, EA promised the world first proper details of Battlefield 4 in "about 90 days" - back-end of April, then, not far off the rumoured reveal of the next generation Xbox. According to online tipsters, Microsoft and EA have signed a major next gen exclusivity partnership. Could Battlefield 4 be involved?

IGN's case for the EA event being a Battlefield event rests primarily on the colour scheme of the invite, which I've reposted to the left. Fairly flimsy reasoning, perhaps, but given that this is IGN - destroyer of worlds, uprooter of civilizations, Great Beast that is called Ziff Davis - it's always possible they know more than they're letting on.

EA's already confirmed Battlefield 4 for next generation consoles, and reckons it'll blow you, your friends and their silly Modern Warfare habits out the window.

"We've been investing and innovating on new technology for months," EA labels president Frank Gibeau commented in a statement. "Console partners who have seen our early work agree, EA's next-gen software is nothing short of astonishing."

"At a GameStop company meeting earlier this week, we gave 500 store managers a sneak peak at Battlefield 4. The game received a huge ovation and thousands of fans reacted to a single enthusiastic Tweet by GameStop's CEO."

We'll be putting those words to the proof before long, I guess. Do you have any particular hopes and/or foreboding feelings about the new Battlefield?
