Hey guys,

wondering if i could get some help here. i installed my xecuter 3 chip about a week ago, and since then, ive been trying to flash the damn bugger with x3_1959. Now my cd writer is stuffed which is just great as i dont know anything about networking and it would have been so nice and simple. So... the only option available to me is to flash via http. Ive read every single tutorial on networking so far and by golly ive ripped all my hair out trying to get the bugger to cooperate.

So this is my trusty setup:
Win XP Pro
dialup modem/internet connection
integrated nic in mobo
cross over cable
Xbox with x3.

I have tried two methods so far. one with a dhcp thingy, and one without.

Without dhcp:
This is what i have done.
internet connection properties: obtain an ip address auotmatically.
Local Area connection properties: TCP\IP properties - ip:192.168.0.2, subnet: 255.255.255.0, default gateway:192.168.0.1.

So i load up flash bios and choose flash via network/http. naturally it says "falling back to 192.168.0.99." So brimming with glee i fire up IE explorer and type in 192.168.0.99 and hey presto. cannot find server. oh joy. if i try the ip address of 192.168.0.2 which is the ip address i have manually assigned i get the same deal.

ok so this is what happens when i activate dhcp:
internet connection properties: TCP\IP properties - obtain an ip address auotmatically. Advanced properties - Internet Conection Sharing - allow other users to connect through this internet connection checked. the other two options are also checked.
Local Area connection properties: TCP\IP properties - ip:192.168.0.2, subnet: 255.255.255.0, default gateway:192.168.0.1.

So i load up flash bios and choose flash via network/http. this time it says something like this "dhcp ip: 192.168.0.167/255.255.255.0." So i start up IE explorer and type in 192.168.0.167. and guess what happens? yup, cannot find server.

WHY? I just dont get it? can somebody please, please point out any blunders? Ive tried everything and scoured all available tutorials but have come up with nada.

For the sake of pete, please help me before my xbox turns into an expensive door stop or punching bag.

Thank you very much for any replies and remember, less xbox and tv, and more polo and twentieth century english literature

This sounds about right - can you run ipconfig /all and relay the information back here.

Are you running any firewall software?

Certainly, thank you very much for the reply.

ipconfig:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
IP Address:192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0
Default gateway:192.168.0.1

PPP adapter Xtra:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
IP Address:210.86.34.177
Subnet Mask:255.255.255.255
Default gateway:210.86.34.177

The firewall is currently off. I have tried with it on, and it seems to make no difference.

Cheers

Try to disable your internet connection, however I don't see how that would be it. Also... I believe your CPU should be .1, if your running ICQ... not the gateway just 1, but your IP? or are you running it on another?

Try to ping the xbox... see if you get a reply.

Ok ... enable dhcp ... Go to the flash bios etc you know the rest ...

NOW .. when you open Explorer (and I apologise if this is REALLY obvious) enter HTTP://192.168.***.*** (whatever the Flash BIOS IP is).

If you just type in the IP address, it will say server not found.

Sorry .. but people have done this !! ...

Do this:

1. Disable ICS.
2. Set your PC NIC (to Xbox) to automatic.
3. Enable ICS on your Internet connection. It should set your PC NIC (to Xbox) to 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0.

Try rebooting FlashBIOS etc again. If you cannot PING the address given by FlashBIOS then you won't be able to connect.

I'd add to the pot of ideas.

If you go to a DOS prompt and ping the Xbox IP, do you get a response? If so, it might just be how Internet Explorer is set up. IE might be trying to get out on the internet instead of staying with the internal IP.

In you look under Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings
NOTHING in there should have a checkmark.
(I play with proxies a lot so I can surf "anonymously", and a set proxy in IE screws with local addresses)

When I ping the xbox, i do get a response. Also, the lan led on the x3 external switch blinks, so i guess some sort of connection exists.

Yeah, I'd do the flashing via cd if my writer was working. :(

Well I have finally have come to some sort of solution. I brought my box round to my girlfriends place today, and set the network up on her laptop with the exact same details as i described, and guess what? it works flawlessly! Well ill be buggered!

Why it dont work on mine I have no idea. Im just going to put it down to gremlins. I'm not going to try to solve this mystery, its not worth my time. If i have any ftp-ing to do ill just bring it round to her place - she only lives a ten minute walk away so its not too bad.

I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to reply, i really appreciate your support. Have a good one fellas :)

Yeah - congrats for getting it sorted.

If you were able to ping the Xbox, then I suppose the only other reason why you couldn't access the http flash is a possibility you are connecting to a web proxy server and haven't told IE to bypass for local addresses. It's possible as some ISPs build it into their setups.

Sorry to dig this thread up, but I'm experiencing the same situation, although I wasn't able to ping my xbox. I'm running Flash BIOS 3.0.1, Xecuter 2.6ce, and a V1.4-5 xbox. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your TCP/IP details and hardware used would be useful!

Sorry about that. I'm not sure what's important and what's not, so I'll just list everything that I got in the cmd prompt.

Connection-specific DNS Suffix ..:
Description.............................: NETGEAR FA311/FA312 PCI Adapter
Physical Address......................:00-09-5b-8e-a4-d4
DHCP Enabled..........................: Yes
AutoConfig Enabled...................:Yes
AutoConfig IP Address................:169.254.21.87
Subnet Mask............................:255.255.0.0
Default Gateway.......................:

I'm using a standard cross-over cable and when I try pinging the xbox (192.168.0.99) it displays four lines of destination host unreachable. I have the firewall turned off as well.
