LITEON 9504 Before I attempt Winbond Hack

Hey guys, I have done 100's of xboxs but this is my first winbond hack.

I was wondering if it would work if I very slowly chip away at the IC chip (I know how to calculate the point) with my exacto knife? Or would that be too sharp? And would doing this without soldering the resistor and attaching the wire to the blade affect the process? Why is that done in the first place?

Thanks for your help. I'm not a noob but this is the only place I can ask.

Cheers!

I was just looking at a tool on 360 tools site, has a hand drill bit and a template. Seems like a good place to start.

The template nice. Hand drill not so much. I took my time and went extremely slow. Even though my drive works I did how ever have to do the pout fix. I think box cutter or xacto knife is a better choice.

I have been wondering what is the "safest" method with this unsafe unlock other than the TX replacement PCB. Not done one......yet.

well, the template is not very trustworthy, i made 3 kamikazes good and 4. and 5. was bad, i realised it was due the template (only a very small difference can be fatal) so since that i always count the position on chip (i rather count it twice to be perfect).

that drill bit handle is great, but the drill bit is not very sharp, you need to find some better (also, i buy 0.8mm drill bit, original in handle is 1mm) and it goes pretty quick (2-3 minutes). But be careful, with original drill bit i had to push the handle down as it was not sharp, but with new drill bit it goes easily and there is no need to push! just be careful, do it slowly and precise and you will be successful

And what about the wire that is soldered to the resistor and then wrung around the drillbit? should I do that some way with the exacto knife or can I use an alternative way or is it definately needed?

I have used the temple a couple dozen times with no problems. As martin said the hand drill is really just to mark the spot and then you go from there. For me I use a pencil soldering iron which has never failed but does make a little bigger hole.

i recommend the template it works everytime. For me it works everytime so it should for you as well. But yes if it is a winbond and you are doing it get the template it is easy anyone can do it but with you saying a Temple id prob get someone else to do it...lol and i would use the drill that comes with it not a soldering iron

If your going to do just one the count the legs and go thata route. The only problem I have with template is it's not made by tx. Now even if you do use it you still need to do a leg count to make sure.

If someone like you says don't do it then i would agree. You are not talking about a mod for amateurs. This is something that could get really bad really quick. Best bet is just pay someone to do it.

I agree with changing the hand drill bit. I know it is to mark the chip but I prefer to use it. I feel there is more control then a dremel.
