Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and looked around a bit, hope this is the best place to post this... I spent some time looking up with Google to try to find a fix and lessons on how to flash my DVD drive since I fear that my be the necessary fix. Please let me know what you think?

I have an Elite (2009) with a BenQ drive (VAD6038) and when I updated to the latest dashboard 2.0.16547.0 (had not been online in a long time) I can no longer play newer games. For example GTA5 sends my xbox into black screen with one flashing red light (error 1002) but the screen doesnt say e66 even though thats what it is. I can still play older games on it but not the newer ones I have.

I did put a replacement dvd drive (the same model) and switched the PCB on it so that it has the original matched board, but I did that after I tried to just swap the whole drive and realized that the board too had to be swapped, cause I had the Play DVD error.

My question is: Do I need to flash the dvd key onto the drive and restore the old firmware then update? and do I have to find what the dvd key is that is stored on the motherboard?

I have a feeling that there is more to this fix than just flashing the dvd drive back to original firmware...

I could be wrong, but I dont recall ever having an xbox made in 2009 with a stock benq in it. Are u sure it is the original drive for the console? all of the ones I have come across have all had liteon 16d2s drives. the only way to be certain would be to rgh and check the osig in the nand, unless the microsoft seal wasnt broken before u started.

Yeah sorry I forgot that I swapped cases with another one cause this one was in better condition. The correct date of manufacture is 2007-11-01.

Post XBC, abgx and burn logs for GTA5. What was the previous dashboard?

Sorry I do not know what XBC or abgx are and I don't have a burn log for GTA5 because I bought the game. The previous dashboard was probably from about 3 years ago. I don't have the number anymore. I think i will just try to connect to the MB and pull the dvd key off there, and copy it onto the dvd drive. I have not found a very good tutorial to fixing e66, so I guess this xbox just became the "test bench"... :)

if the console plays older games the DVD key i correct, the problem you have lies with spoofing.

ie your console may have a different model dvd drive than its meant to have, and its been spoofed to the original.

hook up your dvd drive and dump the FW and JF will tell you if the FW has been spoofed.

you will need to source the correct model of drive, and flash your DVD key to it in an original (or CFW) firmware to play the latest games and do updates correctly.
