Best Bios flashing tutorial?

Hi, I genuinely don't want to sound like a pain in the butt, as I'm sure you guys have heard these questions many times over in the past, but what is the best tutorial for flashing the bios? I installed the Xecuter 2.6 Ce Modchip using the Xapt3r solderless adapter. All seems to have gone well so far, all the correct signal lights light up and the red light for the DO point is on and functioning. So so far so good.

The thing is I did this with an earlier version of this chip a couple of years ago - and I have completely forgotten how to go about the flashing process. (Probably because I put the whole thing out of my mind as I believe I would never need to do it again). Previously as I recall all I had to do was install the chip and then use a CD of some sort to flash the bios. I have looked at some tutorials, but I am concerned that many of them appear to be very out of date, especially for this specific kind of configuration. I also don't have any kind of external programmer.

Something I have noticed (although I have not reconnected the CDROM drive or the yet) is that when I press the power button the Xbox switches itself on and off 3 times - and on the 3rd occasion it comes on and stays on. is this normal?

Also what is the latest (non beta) bios for this particular chip? I'm not asking where to get it, just what version it is and what it''s called? (I think the chip was probably preflashed with the Cromwel bios if this is significant.

Again I am not looking for anyone to repeat what has probably been repeated endlessly already, all I would like is for someone to point me to a clear simple to follow and *current* tutorial for this specific set up that will make my life as easy and simple as possible.

Any input anyone can offer at all would be very much appreciated.

Yes thanks, the only questions I have left are just these:

Something I have noticed (although I have not reconnected the CDROM drive or the hard drive yet) is that when I press the power button the Xbox switches itself on and off 3 times - and on the 3rd occasion it comes on and stays on. Is this normal?

Also what is the latest (non beta) bios for this particular chip? I'm not asking where to get it, just what version it is and what it''s called? (I think the chip was probably preflashed with the Cromwel bios if this is significant.
The version of the chip I bought is this one here:

http://www.modchip-store.co.uk/Xecuter-26-Ce-Modchip-p-55.html so which exact version of FlashBios do I need?

Also what is the latest non beta bios version? Again as I said I'm not asking where to find it as i can probably do that on my own, but knowing what it is and what the exact version number is would be helpful.

You don't need flashbios. All flashbios allows you to do is flash the chip. You need a hacked bios, and the best one out there is X2 5035. You can get it from Xbins. There is a link in my sig. When you unzip the rar file, you will see two .bin files. Be sure to use the one for your version Xbox.

I don't need flashbios at all? Erm so how do I flash the chip with the hacked bios then? Don't worry I will read the links in your sig too).

Also just one last question I would like to clear up, which again is:

I just want to get everything as clear in my mind as possible before I proceed.

OK I'm starting to get a bit of a handle on the bios flashing thing. I've downloaded an ISO that says it is 512k.x2.5035.137.iso. I have read a couple of guides that say all I should need to do is burn this ISO and follow the on screen instructions.

The only questions I have now is, is this the latest version of this bios? And also is the switching on and off 3 times thing normal?

I know it may sound like an odd thing to ask, but I have not completely reassembled the Xbox yet as I am waiting on someone shipping some LED port mods to me and this will take a few days and I don't plan to reassemble it fully until the port mods are installed, so I currently have no video output. So can I assume in the mean time that the switching on and off three times with the present cromwell bios is completely normal?

Edit: Also I just noticed that the chip has a little controller with a bunch of switches on it, which it seems you are supposed to stick to the side of the case. I don't know if this has anything to do with xbox live - but I will never use Xbox live anyway. So do I need it?

the faging turning off and on 3 time is your install recheck it
when you get bios from #xbins it a rar file not iso unrar it then you will see two x2 bios use the one for your xbox
x2 5035 for v1.0 to v1.5 xboxs
x2 5035 v16 plus for v1.6 to v1.6b xboxs
guide to find out what xbox you have
http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions.php
just rename the x2 bios name to bios.bin then burn to cd-rw or dvd not cd-r
as well as a dummy file
the switch are too switch to other bios that you can flash to the chip all so when you frist get you chip it has flashbios 3.0.1 on it bank 1 and flashbios 3.0.3 on bank 2
flashbios 3.0.1 will not work on v1.6b xbox
but all the rest
flashbios 3.0.3 will not work on v1.6 xbox but all the rest
once you find out what vision xbox you have to change the switch to that
now follow the guide (flashbios guide)
the switch allso turns x2 chip off and on

the fraging turning off and on 3 time is your install recheck it
So you are saying that this is definitely a problem and that the chip is not installed correctly, is this correct? I thought as I only have the Cromwell Bios installed at this time that it was some sort of initial set up routine.

Edit: The fragging behaviour has now been resoved by simply pressing down and slighly forward on the chip.

When you get bios from #xbins it a rar file not iso unrar it then you will see two x2 bios use the one for your Xbox
I didn't download it from xbins - as to be honest I am not all that famililiar with IRC. However I did download 512k.x2.5035.rar from a highly reliable bittorrent source. This was a very small file of approximately just under 500KB in size. When I extracted this file it expanded to an ISO file of just under 300MB in size. This ISO contained two files, the first was called bios.bin and the second was called a.dummy - which I suspect is just a dummy file to increase the size of the ISO to make it bootable on the Xbox. I'm pretty sure that this is a preprepared bootable Xbox ISO that contains the bios file I need.

However I guess there is a small degree of risk that this ISO might contain the wrong bios version?

I can confirm that I DEFINITely don't have a version 1.6 Xbox (or above) and that in fact my Xbox is highly likely to be a 1.1 machine.

To be on the safe side however I also downloaded X2.5035.rar which contained a number of files. These are as follows:

x2config.ini
x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin
x2_5035_v16plus_512k.bin
README1ST.TXT
lba48.txt

Since it shouldn't be any really big problem to create a bootable ISO with a large dummy file (I can use Craxion to do this without difficulty) can I presume that the file I want is in fact x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin?

flashbios 3.0.1 will not work on v1.6b Xbox but all the rest
flashbios 3.0.3 will not work on v1.6 Xbox but all the rest
This is where it all get's slightly confusing. Some people are saying that I do need flashbios and some people are saying that I don't. Given that the above .rar file is hosted on a large number of very popular bittorrent sites - and that it is identical in every instance - can I assume that the file I need is x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin? Can I also assume that these bioses are preconfigured and they are in fact already hacked bioses that require nothing more from me other than to create an ISO using the x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin bios and a dummy file in order to enable the Xbox to recognise and boot from it?

The switch are too switch to other bios that you can flash to the chip all so when you first get you chip it has flashbios 3.0.1 on it bank 1 and flashbios 3.0.3 on bank 2
Again thank you, however do you (or does anyone) have any kind of link to a manual, or some diagrams, or perhaps a .PDF to show how to configure these switches to enable bios flashing? I understand the purpose of the switches, but I would like to know how to correctly set them and to learn about what the various configurations of these switches are and what they do. I guess I am looking for some kind of instruction manual, or tutorial showing correct dip switch configuration.

Again I am not even a little interested in Xbox live, not am I particularly interested in other bios', all I am interested in is the xecuter bios for this specific chip. (Essentially I want to turn my Xbox into an internet radio player - so I doubt I will have much use for Xbox live, or games or anything of that type at all).

Once again I thank you for all your kind patience and help in this matter.

Hi thanks I definitely don't have a V 1.6 or a V 1.6b Xbox and I am specifically looking for a switch /instruction guide on the correct switch configuration for an Xecuter 2.6 Ce. I think I have pretty much figured out the rest and it is only the correct switch configuration for the Xecuter 2.6 Ce on my particular Xbox which remains the outstanding question. Can you or anyone please help?

There are also several problems with the guides in your links (particularly with the images) due perhaps to the recent change in the teamxecuter web site. Although again none of these tutorials appear to point to the correct switch configuration for an Xecuter 2.6 Ce on a pre V. 1.6 Xbox.

As soon as I clear this up, I think I will be good to go.

OK thanks, the chip is now working as expected. However I still need a link to a good *current* tutorial on how to flash the 2.6 CE bios using flashbios 3.0.3. Please bare in mind that virtually all of the links on how to do this on this thread are dead (particularly the images).

I prefer to flash via CD drive - so any guide that shows me exactly how to do this would be very useful. Once I have the bios file in place, what exactly is the directory structure and the name/s of the bios files that flash bios expects to find?

The Team Xecuter link is in my sig. It doesn't get any better than that. It is also in DJs sig.

edit - Hmm... It looks like the images don't work, but you really shouldn't need any images, you can still follow the text. What part are you confused by?

OK here is the deal:

I managed to flash the bios, but now I have a very weird problem. I had my Xecuter 2 professionally installed after a lot of fuzzing about (since in the end I just didn't have the time for it) on what (after reading all the guides) appears to be a V 1.2 Xbox.

I set the bank of switches to 1st bank, flash protection off, chip on - which is the recommended configuration
I got to the Flash bios screen on the xecuter 2.6 CE. I made a DVD-R disk with x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin which I got from Xbins and a 'dummy' 300MB file. (I renamed x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin to bios.bin)

After following the screen prompts I inserted my bios disk and the flashing process appeared to proceed as normal. The Xbox powered down and I restarted and removed the DVD-R.

On start up I got a message saying: "xecuter2 config live loading" followed by the familiar xbox logo - beneath this however there is a new 'other logo. saying "xecuter rox my box".

However after trying a whole bunch of different media from DVD-RW to DVD-r (including some high quality TDK DVD-R's, I am unable to run any unsigned code.

I made several DVD-R's with Evox dash (following the guide to the letter) and XBMCusing both Craxion4 (which I have successfully used many times on my other xbox) and I also tried Xiso - but all to no avail. I tried copying a legal xbox game I have (well actually I tried several). and they all appear to choke at the Xbox 'loading' screen (the big X with XBOX underneath it that you get when you power up.

It looks I have to say like it is choking on the media - but as I have said I have tried several brands of media, CRDW, DVD-R DVD-RW from a variety of manufacturers and so far nothing appears to work.

Oddly however - and this is the strangest part, I can boot Linux from a plain bog standard every day CDR disk.

It is almost as though it is still somehow running the Cromwell bios, even though the bios claims to have been successfully flashed.

Something else odd I have noticed about this Xbox is that it has no network configuration screen in the default MS dashboard.

My other Xbox had this screen from the outset - but bemusing this has no network set up screen at all.

Does anyone have any clue what might be going on?

NM... It turns out the disks were good... I found an auto installer with a bunch of stuff on it which (which gave me a FTP so I could install other stuff too. I burned with K3B instead of Nero and all went very well from there. Next task... upgrading the harddisk. Surely it can't be too difficult from here...

Nope, putting in a new hard drive is pretty easy. You may want to backup your existing save games before doing so. That way you can FTP them back to your new drive.
