Best way to mod & play on Xbox Live?

Just wondering is there anyway possible to mod your Xbox360 and use it on Xbox Live.

I got the Xbox opening tool and I'm not afraid to try any of the stuff myself. Just want to learn more before I give it a go.

Will it be possible to play backups on xbox live on my 360?
