Big big big problem...

I seem to have ran into some difficulty with my recent NES XBOX mod, the PSU. The only way I can make this hulk fit in my casing is if I remove the heatsinks from the motherboard, exposing the processors. If I place two mini RadioShack fans above them, will that be okay? Or will the processors be prone to Overheat?

It's all about dissipation of heat. Having a fan directly over a processor with no heatsink means that

a) your fans have to be ultra efficient and be able to have the space and ventilation to remove the heat.
b) if at any time your fans lessen their performance, you will burn out the processor almost immediately.

I would seriously advise against it. If you're fighting for room as it is, then I'm guessing you don't have the space for adequate ventilation anyway.

Well, everything except the PSU should fit, but I dont know yet as I haven't mounted in the Motherboard. I have plenty of openings for little RadioShack Microfans. But yeah, I agree, I'll leave the heatsinks intact.

Just a thought.... you could put the power supply in its own case, and jump the mobo connector to the outside the nes.

Nah, I'm really aiming to keep everything inside of the case so I don't have to lug around extra items.

Sony should've thought of that with the slim PS2 :D

Yeah, with the slim PS2, there's an external power adaptor that is about the size of 1/2 a DVD drive, It's kind of , but whatever

Well, I kind of like the PStwo a little bit better than it's older and bigger brother. It takes up less space, I like the top loader because motor drives die or can get jammed, and it has IR so I can use my PSP as a Controller. :) But if they could have made it a little bit bigger to support say a Laptop sized Hard-Drive, we could all agree the PStwo would be better.

Wait, did you say "Use PSP as a controller"

How does that work?

Through a PSP application I can use my PSP as a TV Remote on any Sony TV and a Wireless Controller [yes, a fully functional game controller] on the Slim model PStwo's.

Yeah, the problem about 1.5 is that soon games will require 2.0

FIRM ON FIRMWARE:
Another burr in the saddle for PSP owners is Sony's insistence on making the device hack-proof. After s found a way to roll back the 2.0 firmware to version 1.5 so owners could run pirated and home-brew games and other software applications, Sony has created another firmware upgrade to seal the holes in the 2.0 firmware. You don't have to update your firmware, but new PSP games will soon require it.

Exactly what I was thinking. It might not be that bad. You can make the multiple cables longer and put them in a cool color sheath. Maybe even rig a connector in the middle. It'd might end up looking pretty cool.

So it's be Power cord to PSU in black box with fan... then from there to custom connector... which would connect to the back of the box to the MOBO...

Did any of that make sense? :D

Of course it did, lol. But the thing is though, I've been rather smart on conserving space by using this Laptop HDD. By doing that, alot of excess space has been left open to me, so the PSU will be mounted next to the DVD-Drive in the top lid of the NES. Great Stuff.
