I am sorry if this message is commonly seen, but I am in a big mess here, and I don't know what a lot of this stuff means :p. One week ago, I tried to softmod my xbox with the Mechassualt audio exploit. I gained FTP access to my 'Box, and was in the process of doign the instructions when my xbox cam unplugged. I had backed up my HD to my CPU, and started editing the files the tut said to edit. Then the power died. Now, I cannot load discs, or go to the MS dash. I am effectivly shut out of my Xbox.

My friend had a Chip that he never used, a Solderless X2.6CE (Is that accurate?). He let me take it this afternoon. I am under the impression that I can use a chip to load a new dash to gain FTP access and restore the MS dash, and then I want to proceed with modding.

As i said, I tried searching the forums, but i cant seem to find any answers. Is it even possible to boot up this way to restore the problem i made?

My Xbox is v1.0, btw. And the problem I am having right now, is i cant get the LEDs on the chip to turn on, but I am sure I am applying good pressure. At this point, am I supposed to have the wires connecting the chip to the external switch? If so, I cant get a good connection, the wires dont hold in place.

Any help would be greatly appreiciated if you can help, or if i can even repair my Box this way. Again, I am sorry if this is a common post, but I am a noob to Mods. Please don't flame me! lol

Yes, you must have the switch bank connected on a X2.6 chip for it to work. Don't know why the plugs are not holding in place for you.

You should be able to get in and fix your box this way. The chip, if never used before, will likely only have FlashBIOS on it. You will not be able to access your box via this BIOS. You will need to use FlashBIOS to load a hacked BIOS to the chip, recommended is the X2CL 5035 BIOS. Look at the Xbins link in my sig for instructions on how to access and download the BIOS. This will then need to be flashed to the chip, tutorials on the Xecuter home page. With the chip flashed you will then be able to run unsigned code. You can now burn and boot from a CD/DVD that will contain software running an FTP server. You are probably already somewhat familiar with this from how far you got on the softmod. Fix up your files and disable/remove the chip, see if you're up and running. It is a number of steps to take but it should be possible to fix.

If there is any step in the process that you feel unsure about, before diving in further stop and read whatever documentation came with the software (if applicable) and the associated forums here or at Xbox Scene. If you still are unsure, read more. If you *then* still aren't sure, stop back here and ask. There are plenty of good people here that will give you the straight dope.

Just let us know that you've searched around and read documentation first, and still need help.

Even if you're lying.

Especially if you're lying. :D

By the way, this is a picture of what was in the package. I connected the shown cable just like that, but when I go to maneuver the switch, it isnt clamped down. And if i turn it 100% upside down, the cables weight makes it fall off the connection. Ive tried lots of pressure, as well as electricians tape, none of it will hold right.

Also, on the Xaptar, there are more prongs than holes on the bottom of the chip, where they connect. Does it matter what postion they fir together. Ive been doing what seems default, connecting where there is 1 pin and 1 hole. Maybe I should put them together where the outside rows on the chip are empty, or should i try two rows side by side empty, with the Xapter on one side of the connections?

I'd REALLY like to play XBox again, its where i get my source of RPGs and FPSs, outside of Matrix Online and Demos :(.

Don't know what to say as to why your cable is falling out. Besides the simple grip of the contacts themselves, there should be two bumps on the bottom of the plug that fit into respective notches in the socket to help hold it in place properly seated.

How many pins are thereon the solderless adapter you have? The LPC that this fits into has 2x8 pins, and the socket on the X2.6CE also has 2x8 pin receptacles. I've looked at the Xapter and Xapt3r units I could find online and none of them have more than 16 pins total. Can you link to a picture of what your adapter looks like?

If you look at the LPC link in my sig you will see a picture of the LPC header that is on the Xbox motherboard. Pin 1, LClk, is the starting point where you should line up pins. Note that while it does have the traditional square pin 1 marking on the LPC, where you see the square marking on the underside of the X2.6CE chip will not line up, it's on the opposite side of the pinheader. This is OK. So assuming the pins on your solderless adapter go straight through from top to bottom, you should be sure you line these pins up.

Honestly, from some of the problems you are stating, the ill fitting plugs and the mismatched adapter, it sounds to me like there is something fishy with the hardware you have.

So you got a xbox 1.0 right? Is the LEDs filled with solder (something is blockign them so you can't see through them? If they are your best way of fitting the chip on is to solder it on.

Maybe I'm misstaken but from what I could read in your post it sounds like you are trying to fit a solderless adapter onto the blocked LEDs...and that's just not possible :)

This is not right. A LED is a Light Emitting Diode. That's not what you solder to on the LPC bus.

Second, you can install a solderless adaptor on an Xbox with solder in the LPC holes. All you have to do is use a stiff pencil eraser or a q-tip with some nail polish to clean the area.
