thanks cronus... might try xbox-scene as well... as getting thread views doesn't resolve my problem. :( . i've double checked all memory pins and they all seem correct. i've discovered something also. two pins on every memory chips, (including those that are stock and i didn't touch) are chunted. is it normal? the thing that is driving me nuts is why the box go on with the boot when i press the eject button.... (no i don't have any mods on the power or eject) all i have is the x3 pro switch, the x3lcd. and the... x3.

I don’t understand why you would add more ram into your xbox. As far as I understand it the xbox was only designed to use the base 64 MB for the games. Unless you are loading linux what use will the extra ram give you?

I've read your whole paragraph deal and the only program that i know that works is linux. i've never heard of any other successful stories on other programs.

I believe he is right that Mameox will use more than 64MB RAM, which is handy for emulating titles that go over the 64MB limit. Some emulation programs will use a HDD swap file to get around the issue of ROM files causing emulators to go over the 64MB ceiling but this is a slow solution. As for the issue at hand, I suspect you may have to remove the RAM to see if your box will not FRAG without it if nobody can give you any further advise. Obviously just make sure you have no signs of solder splashes in the areas where you have soldered the RAM. Good luck getting running properly again.

There are plenty of uses for extra ram...I am using a DX-1480 with a processor and ram upgrade. I am using the box as a media center, the beefed up box works a treat for XBMC. Did you guys honestly not even think about that? Sure, my setup pretty much renders the box useless for playing games, but I have other boxes for that, this one is my media center. Also, just to shed light on what seems to be an under-researched topic, there are tools available at the usual places to delimit the ram on games so your games will use the full 128megs. I can't say as it is really that noticeable on a normal box, but with Halo2 on my DX, after patching the .xbe with ram delimit, I can notice a pretty significant difference. (that's right, SOME games actually do work great with the processor upgrade!)

BISPOO: Have you held your board under a magnifying glass with a bright light behind the board? It makes imperfections really easy to spot as you can tell which pins are securely soldered and if any are jumpered and such. If you have not done it, try it. I know you said you already double checked it, but it never hurts and may solve your problems.

Hey,
As far as I know about ram upgrade the dot on the chip has to be aligned with the dot on the motherboard. Also no pins should be in contact with any other pins. This can easily be checked with a multimeter.

Check these links here:

i was triple checking now and it's the same. i passed with the multimeter on EVERY points on the 4 chips and no one is open nor short. DAMM this thing is diffucult. Yes the dot on the chip (pin number 1) is aligned. I CAN'T even tell the difference about the memory that was retail to the one's i soldered. i've done a pretty job. i asked a friend to lend me one digital camera to take photos of the job. One thing im thinking (and i am almost wrong) is if there is any imcompatibility with this bios X3 2913. only xecuter can tell, or anyone with already 128 mb and running X3. Yes i have a magnifying glass. I am using it.

Thanks for these links Floopy. but i already checked these. And i have already posted my problem on X-Scene too. but thanks for actually trying to help instead of.. 128 is only linux and things like that....

Oh well, I tried.
I think you may be right about the bios not supporting the chip. That was the problem with the bios's when the 1.6 and 1.6b xbox came out. They had to program for the Xcalibur chip but they also had to program for the Samsung and Hynix ram chips respectively.

try and remove the chip, and boot in retail mode. i dont know if retail will just ignore the extra ram or not, but its worth a shot in figuring out if its the x3 or your solder job.

Problem resolved... Decided no to do the mod. i desoldered the memory chips. and it's working (at least that!) i must have been very lucky cause the box it's alive. i suspect the problem was the memory the guy sent me.... all was fine, maybe the chips were faulty... i don't know. Thanks for help anyway.

LMAO, I didn't realize I signed my real name until I read your post. I go on another forum where I sign off that way. That's too funny.

As a side note, I was at a Joan Jet concert last year and the bass player's mohawk flopped over halfway through the show. I got a kick out of that.

Sorry you couldn't find a solution to your ram problem. I thought for sure you would find a solution.
