Any clues as to how to resolve not being able to boot from the dvd after flashing x3 with 3294? Worked fine with 3108, but had to update as x3 work freeze when accessing lcd settings - heard it was a bug resolved in 3294. motherboard is a 1.4 and flashed it with 3294. my other box which is a 1.6 with x3, but without lcd has exact same fault but flashed with 3294 v16plus. Downloaded bios from xbins this morning (aus time). figured latest is greatest so flashed both of my xboxs. Thanks

You need to set the x3 to default settings then reboot it when using 3294. I believe this is right on the executer posting so look and read next time please as we grow weary.
Yes it is on the home page in bold type in th erelease data.

Just in case you missed any of that:

Flash the new BIOS and reset the X3 settings afterwards.

(thought I'd join in since everyone else is posting this!).

Hi guys,

I have been reading in the forums about this and just wanted to post a quick snippet.

I sent my xbox to www.system-mods.com for solering my X3CE chip in and as soon as I got it back I flashed it with 3294 bios and was having problems booting Games and DVD Movies. I did see the bold print "- notes: MAKE SURE YOU RESET THE X3 TO DEFAULT SETTINGS BEFORE USING - OR SOME THINGS LIKE BOOT FROM DISC WONT WORK" ... but I didn't see how that could work for a first time flasher since it just boots up into the FLashBios.

Well long story short the games that use to play in the non-moded xbox now give either read errors or my box thinks its a dvd movie of 11MB. So I set the bios to "default settings" in the X3 Config Live utility and then reflashed, thinking this would accomplish what the bold warning was on the 3294 bios release, but I still have the same errors.

I doubt this could be a bad dvd drive as its a newer Samsung and it was just working 2 weeks ago. So am I understanding this correctly: 1) Flash bios of choice, 2) once X3 Config live runs choose "default" settings, 3) reboot

Yes. Load 3294, set to default, reboot from the chip menu, then change your settings back to the way you had them in the previous Bios you were using. Very simple and pain-in-the-ass-less.

Rookio,

No, I disable the chip by holding down the power button, chip goes red, it boots to M$ Dash, I put a retail purchased game in and it either think's its a dvd movie or says the disc is damaged or dirty. I'll post the exact wording again when I get home and can test it again.

It also has problems using DVD2XBOX, it will either not read the disc at all or it'll copy the game and complete but say it couldn't copy 12 files or 14 files. The games play fine though. At least as far as I can tell who knows there might be an error waiting to happen sometime down the road.

I guess if I have to get a new DVD Drive I'm ok with that, just seems weird that my dvd drive worked fine before the mod.

Thank for the help.

I forgot to mention, it plays DivX and Xvid files off a DVD perfectly.

Ok,

I actually got it to load a game tonight. I booted up into the M$ Dash, I put in Retail Fable, it took it a little while (30s) to load it up but it actually got past the first 3 little video clip intros, then the screen went to "The disc you are trying to use is either dirty or damaged" error msg. Which is the same error msg I've gotten each time but each time its in different color? I guess each game has its own format to display error msgs. The reason I say that is this time it was in all white, like the Fable screen, previously it was in the M$ Dash green, and when trying to rip a game to the HDD it was in black presumably from DVD2XBOX.

I can post some pics if you want.

Iono... ;-(

And I voided my warranty by opening up my xbox to install a HDD since they just soldered, but they sealed it with a sticker.

Thx guys

Ok so I got tired of not knowing what the solder job looked like so I took my box apart this morning and snapped some quick photos. They look pretty good to me, but since somebody mentioned they could be causing the problems, take a look for yourself:

Well it all looks good as you said - however, I'm not too keen on what they did with the d0/lan/hdd cable.

From what I can make out of the 1st image, they're being passed through one of the screw holes on the board. This can damage the cables and I really don't know for sure if this would cause the problems you're mentioning. I do know it's not the best of ideas..

Martin,

Hmm, so it sounds like from what you wrote that passing those cables could possibly cause problems in the future, or even right now, like crimping I'm assuming. I'm no electronic whiz but I could see how they could possibly get bent.

I think the next step for me is to borrow my friends DVD Drive from his Xbox and plug it in to try it out. I know his has always worked fine.

*side note*

For those of you out there looking to get a "professional" solder job on your xbox, if you use System Mods don't send them your LPD rebuild, they'll just keep it and not use it (probably to pad their inventory), also I sent them my Xapter (yea dumb idea in retrospect) which as you can see they obviously didn't use but also kept. I'm starting to even wonder if this is my same DVD Drive that came with my xbox.
