I just wanted to close this thread out with what fixed my problem, it was my dvd drive, i ordered a new Thompson DVD drive off ebay for $30, put it in, works perfectly for everything, DVD & DivX.

I also contacted System-mods.com and they returned my LPC rebuild (actually sent me 2) as well as my solderless adapter. So I was satisfied with their service although they are a bit on the impatient side.
