Can anyone tell me what happend. I've been trying to flash my bios with the latest X3_3294.bin but the flash process would get stuck right in the middle of GREEN bar going accross. It did not matter what how I did it...whether it as via HTTP or CD, it would get stuck right in the middle of GREEN bar. I would not turn on normally, I would have to turn the Xbox using the Eject and Power button. I tried the dip switches ON ON OFF OFF and I also tried using the OFF ON OFF OFF and neither one worked. I finally read somewhere on a forum to unlock the HD...tried that and still did not work. It finally worked after I turned the Xbox using the Eject and Power button and leaving all the dip switch to the OFF position. Put in the CD with the Bios bin and it FINALLY flashed the bios. Since all the dip switches are set to OFF, that does mean it used up the entire 2MB?

BTW.. since I am a newbie, where do I go from here? I was told to load AID3.10. any advise?

Boot it into the X3 Config Live BIOS menu and then set the switches to the on,on,off, off, off positions. Go through the menu and select BIOS flashing and flash the bios from there to the first bank - see if that works.

As for what to do next - the world is your oyster ! Yes, the Auto Installer seems to be the popular choice at the moment, or you could just download a few dashboards from where you got the BIOS and try them.

I would also highly recommend getting a new (bigger) hard drive fitted in there and then download dvd2Xbox to enable you to play games from the harddrive - this for me was one of the coolest features of it all.

First thing I would do no matter what else you decide upon though is to hook the Xbox up to your PC and make a backup of the entire hard drive from your Xbox as it is at the moment - making sure the lock is off if it isnt already.

Just to add, if you're going to use another HDD, make sure you only use ConfigMagic to lock or unlock your HDD. It sets the master password, enabling you to unlock it at a later date on your PC.

Also, don't get confused with the lock/unlock of a HDD. As soon as the Xbox is powered on and on the X3CL/Dashboard/Game screen, it's unlocked anyway. You don't need to manually unlock it to copy data to and fro.

I've taken drives out of (new) Xbox's, unlocking them first of course, but using the X3 to do so and then used them in my PC - Never used Config Magic.

Did I mis-understand ?

Not at all - if this is what you want to do with your old HDD that's fine. If you were going to use it on another Xbox, then locking it with ConfigMagic would be the ideal solution.

The reason I said to unlock using this tool, is that the master password is set right from the start and even if you lock it using the X3CL utility, it won't remove the master password.

Ok What am I doing wrong? I went to Bios Tools -> Bios Bank Selec -> Then I go to switch to 1MB Bank. Then It looks like I have three Options
"Press Black for X3 dip settings
"switch to unknown @ bank 1-4"
"switch to unkonw @ bank 5-8"

Now I change the dip setting to ON ON OFF OFF

Now I try to the two bottom ones and both time it ask me to reboot. Reboots just fine but when when I do a cold boot the Xbox does its normal ON and OFF and nothing come on the screen. I then have to move the dip settings back all OFF and all OK. any ideas?
