hey guys. first time modding a 360 so please bear with me. Everything's alright so far, got it all stripped down, all the programs I need ready. I'm using an asus p5b deluxe MB. In xtremebootmaker I'm selecting the JMicron JMB36X Controller instead of the Intel(R) ICH8 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controlle or the 2 port option. Is this a bad idea or...? Second, I don't quite have a usb storage device, I've got one on the way since I had trouble using the CD method. I'm trying to get everything prepared for when it arrives. I know how to configure to boot from the USB device, but how do I configure in my BIOS that SATA will be used? Sorry If that doesn't make sense. All I seem to have an option for for is raid, ide, or ahci. I thought textbooks tutorial said something about selecting SATA, not RAID. Doesn't seem to be a sata option though :? Could someone help me out?

Xtremebootmaker handles the SATA stuff, you don't need to do anything in the BIOS. That's why you select the appropriate SATA chipset in XBM before creating your custom boot disk. As for whether or not the SATA chipset you're attempting to use will work, I don't know, I'd check the compatibility chart. (you didn't mention what type of drive you have)

sorry, I was in a hurry and forgot to mention it. I'm using the samsung ms25 drive, which I hear is the easiest to flash. I'll go take a look at the compatibility chart, I think I might have earlier but I don't remember seeing anything on it for the chipset I'm using. also, In case I havn't, should I disable RAID at all in the BIOS if it is enabled, or do I really have to do nothing at all to the BIOS?

Your JMicron should work, and your ICH8 should work fine as well. As for the BIOS settings, you should select IDE mode for the RAID configuration.

thanks textbook. btw your tutorial is great.
I have the same board. Do you anything hooked up the Jmicron Sata port? Because I don't...I can see the chipset in the drop down list of XBM but it says "IDE". Makes sense because I have a DVDRW drive hooked up. If I had something hooked up to the Jmicron SATA port I'm sure it would say "SATA". I wonder if it makes a difference if I choose IDE.
